Hawkins County is nice. Where we live is about 20 minutes from Morristown, 45 from Knoxville and maybe an hour from Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Also about 45 minutes from Kingsport ( which I would much rather go to than Knoxville)

Default Kingston area

Can anyone tell me about a "ash spill" around or in Kingston? Does this affect all of Kingston or just a certain portion. I've also heard there is or will be a difficult clean up of this and reports of respiratory problems in that area since. Is this an area to stay away from while looking?

If you want small town feel, and can be a ways out from Knoxville, visit Crossville. It's about 45 minutes to Knoxville. Was there this past weekend. Nice place, friendly people, rural feel but has a "small downtown" area as well.

Seems to cater to a lot of transplanted retirees. Lake Tansi area is nice as is Fairfield Glade.

I was just in Harriman for 3 days. I am avoiding that area as a place to relocate because of the ash spill. I lived through Three Mile Island, and don't want to knowingly place myself in the middle of another national disaster.

I did not see the ash spill, but have read quite a bit about it. I'm also keeping clear of the areas down water of the spill too, which is unfortunate as I did like the Rockwood area.

I don't want to be too far from Knoxville because my husband and I both will be utilizing the VA facility for our healthcare. So 45 minutes might be a little far out for us. We would like to find something southeast of Knoxville...maybe Madisonville, Vonore, etc. all out in that area. But my husband had taken a liking to Kingston area. He liked the little "town square" area.

I am visiting Fairfield Glad in TN. Incredible scenery, friendly people. I can't believe how inexpensive food prices are at both the grocery stores and restaurants. I would seldom cook if I lived in this area.

Wonderful area to retire in. Crossville is a small town with all the amenities. You have lakes, golfing, beautiful drives to State Parks.

Google the TVA ash spill. Doctors in the area have told people to move out. I am not from the area, but just reading things like that steer me clear, especially when there are so many other beautiful areas. I wouldn't go to Kingston, but like I said, I'm not a native of the area. Maybe others will chime in.

I just googled the TVA ash spill.....WOW! I had no idea. I hadn't heard about it, but then we have so much crap and corruption going on in Illinois where I live that we don't have time to worry about what is happening in another state. Well Kingston and surrounding areas are definitely off my list of places to live. As 3tailswaggin said who lived through 3 Mile Island, where I live we have our well water contaminated by MTBE from gasoline from Shell Pipeline spill in 1988 that contaminated an area and spread in the underground water system. So there has been an ongoing class action lawsuit that is just now getting settled. So I don't want to purposely put myself in another crap hole either. So I'll be looking somewhere else. I'd like to get over by the foothills of the Smokeys. My hubby and I ride motorcycles and that is motorcycle country over there!

Hmm...funny you should mention Seymour. It is a place on my list for us to check out on our next trip down that way to look around! We looked around Madisonville, Sweetwater, Vonore...a little around Loudon.
