I'm not quite sure what you are asking about the Marriott.

There is tourism potential, but the city can't quite get its act together. For example, there is a free trolley service that runs downtown, but only during weekdays. There is a late-night service on weekends, but that only runs during the University of Tennessee school year.

It seems that the city depends on the UT students and doesn't really bother trying to attract tourists.

I think they need to take a trip to Chattanooga and pick up some pointers.

Well, the problem is that the city itself is pretty small. You can walk through the majority of it in around 15-20 minutes. I actually prefer it this way. When I come to visit, it is pleasant to be able to walk around the city and basically have very few people trudging around. I think more recent times has increased the number of people who use downtown, but these are likely citizens and not toursists who are coming to place like Mast General Store, the WDVX blue plate special, and concerts at the Tennessee theater.

Yeah I'm not sure I understand your question about the Marriott, either. Are you planning on buying it???

If you're referring to the Marriott downtown, it was originally built as a Hyatt Regency, and it's been around forever. For years it was the only full-service hotel downtown. Some people say TVA must've had a hand in its design because it looks like a cross section of a dam. I think that's funny.
