Default Opinions on the Mayfield Dairy Farm in Athens, TN

Hello everyone. I live in the Tri-Cities area and I've heard about the Mayfield Dairy Farm Tour in Athens, TN.

I was just wondering what it was like? I have two boys, ages 8 and 3, I thought would enjoy it. Is it worth the drive (2+ hours) or should we just stop by sometime when we are on our way somewhere else past there?

Thanks so much!!

Default Mayfield Dairy Tour

We did the tour about a year ago and found it very interesting. They show you everything from making the milk cartons to the finished product that goes to the store. When you finish the tour there is a gift shop that sells most of the flavors of Mayfield ice cream. The tour lasted about an hour. We took in some other stops along the way including the Memonite Farmers Market in nearby Delano, TN which was very interesting. Not sure I would make the drive from the Tri Cities to Athens just for the Dairy Tour. Perhaps there are other stops along the way that would justify the trip.

Pacers,

I agree with TNLover..I don't know if I'd make the 2 1/2 hour drive just for the Mayfield tour, though it is pretty neat. I would maybe try and throw in a few other stops, such as hitting up the Lost Sea (Get Ready to Take an Unforgettable Adventure), stopping by the Sweetwater Valley farm cheese factory (Sweetwater Valley Farms | Tennessee Dairy Farm | Tennessee Cheese | Tennessee Farm Tours | Cheese Festival | Southern Cheddar | Tennessee Cheese Making | East TN Cheddar Cheese ), or even driving a little extra to raft the Ocoee River (Ocoee River Whitewater Rafting Trips in Tennessee with Ocoee Inn Rafting). Then I would definitely make the trip!

You can find farm tours and activities a lot closer to you. The state has a great website to promote agritours and agricultural products.
