The store is for sale? how sad. I had friends that lived in Heiskell and really the store was the only thing that meant there was a town.It was a kind of weird store that was open 24/7 and people were actually always there... 24/7. Not sure what they did in there, but there were 3 or 4 pinball machines and a sort of diner. There was also a hair salon, but it didn't last long. There was also a church across the street built in the 1880's.
Long ago there was a truck stop too- a big one with a greasy diner and repair facility. It too was shut down and I believe the diner was torn down. The freeway idea has been discussed for decades, but nobody believed it would ever happen. The area is unfortunately in a prime area between the freeways. Once the interchange comes, then so too will the Wal-Marts, Depots, and Mcdonalds that have blighted the area.

The store is the same way, and I believe it is still owned by the same people. When we first moved here, everyone would turn around and stare when we walked in, but they have since gotten use to us. The owner's wife is always so sweet to my daughter.
The church of the hill, a methodist church, is still there.
This area is one of the last places left that hasn't been blighted.

Believe it or not, the Methodist church you refer to( the big brick building) used to be a school. Half of it burned in the 1970's and it was turned into a fire hall. The fire dept now resided in the newer looking building across the street from the store. Where the new fire dept is, there was once large wooden church. It was in rather deplorable condition even way back then. It was bulldozed 10 years ago or more to make way for the fire station. The Methodist church made a deal with the fire dept to 'swap' places so the church could get a bigger building. Walk into the church sometime... there are still paintings in the old lunch room from when it was still a school.
