Kamella- We haven't really looked into how good the public transportation is, b/c didn't plan on using it that much. However, now that you mention it I think I'll check it out If I were you I would start a new thread asking about the public transportation...I'm sure there is someone on CD who would be able to give you more information.
To answer your question about knoxapts.com or rent.com :yes I have checked them out before, but no I did not find them helpful. Most of the apartment complexes listed on both of those sites are not our cup of tea, but they seem nice. I mostly searched craigslist, city data, and used street views on Google maps ( beware that some of the street views are not current and most places look much nicer now).
Here are three websites that I like and have helped us find out about Knoxville :
Metro Pulse: Knoxville News, Issues, Entertainment, Culture, People
Knoxify - Unscripted. Knoxville.
the sunsphere is NOT a wigshop : voted the BEST blog about knoxville
I hope these help you out!

There are numerous threads that address our transit system, which is called KAT which stands for Knoxville Area Transit. Our motto is Ride for Change.

Our system is not very good but typical of a city our size. Perhaps a bit better, but not by much. It also caters more to college students than anything else.

They're stuck in a Catch-22 like most systems, whereas very few people ridge the bus due to the infrequent and short routes but the system can't afford to expand without confirmed ridership.

At any rate, here is their website.
