My map says it will take one hour and 41 minutes to get to Knoxville from Sneedville. You'll probably want to ask about Sneedville on the main Tennessee forum.

If you really want a small town, with friendly people and no crime, but want to be close to Knoxville- at the same time- I would consider Grainger County. Depending on how rural you want to be... Washburn is really rural, but is only a 25-30 minute drive to the East Towne Mall area of Knoxville. Rutledge is a small town trying to be a big town, around the same driving time, most people go to Morristown from there though. Blaine is quickly becoming a suburb of Knoxville in itself, so go there if you want some rural feel, just don't be surprised when subdivisions pop up like weeds all around you.
All the cities/towns I mentioned are served by Cherokee Health Systems via clinics. Most offer dental service as well.

Sneedville is really remote, or at least it used to be (I haven't been there in about a decade). Unless they've really improved the roads, I'd bet at least a two-hour drive.

I had looked at a farm (on the 'net) near there a few months ago. The seller stated that it's a 1 1/2 hour drive to Knoxville. There's a new hospital in Sneedville, tho. But, from what I hear, it is pretty remote, with icey dangerous mountain roads to navigate in the winter.
blessings, Shen

Also, if you have any kids or plan to have any kids, remember that Hancock County is quite rural and doesn't (or didn't use to) have a lot of funding for education. Hancock County High used to have Spanish classes via video tape. Of course, this is from years ago.
Washburn would be a better bet. It's very pretty up there. Strangely, they seem to have a fair amount of problems from tornadoes and storms, however.

Also, you might consider rural Blount County. About 30-40 minutes away is an area called Walland. It's really beautiful, and many properties back onto national park lands, from what I hear.

I live very close to Sneedville and have been there a few times. Mountains, rivers, small town. If you want some detailed information I can give you the e-mail address of a realtor who lives there. She would know more about property costs, schools ect. If you are interested email me and I will pass her information on to you. tracyricker@yahoo.com
