Default Looking to relocate to the Knoxville area

Hi! Paul here, I am looking to relocate to the Knoxville area. I don`t know much about it, currently live near Medina Ohio in a small rural township.

I would like to find a home near I-75, 5-10 minutes away, shopping nearby, food, home depot, lowes, whatever you have there.

Sidewalks, smaller lot 1/3 acre or so 3 bedroom, 2 bath, one level home, open floor plan.

Disabled so one under construction might be a plan so I can have some handicapped changes made? Level lot, dead end street.

Just don`t know the different areas of the Knoxville area, don`t want to live in the inner city, a burb. I have heard Halls, Maynardville, are nice areas?

Thanks, Paul.

Sounds like a plan! You pretty much described my house! I'm not kidding! Except I have 1/2 acre. I'm in one of the first burbs of Knoxville. Houses from the 50s. It looks like the "Leave it to Beaver" neighborhood!

Halls and Maynardville are fine, but they might be a bit farther from I-75 than you imagined.

Have you ever been to Knoxville? It doesn't resemble most northen cities. It seems more like a very large town. Not much inner city.

I'm in Fountain City. If you wanted to go further out you could go up to the next exit which is Powell.

How much do you plan to spend?

By the way, welcome to the Knoxville forum!

There are several communities at the junction of the I-40 and I-75 that might work for you.

hiknapster, drove thru it a few weeks ago on my way to Florida and back on I-75. Went to Florida to check it out to relocate and spent about 5 weeks around the Tampa-St.Pete area.

Not impressed by any of it, not a good location for me, nice to visit maybe, but not for me to live.

Spend? LOL as little as possible, but saw some decent homes in the area on real estate websites for 125,000 - 175,000. Just have to get loose ends tied up here and get down there for a close up look.

Knoxville just seems like a better plan for me, I can deal with your weather, mild compared to what I am used to, and more of a central location for me than the north or south coast.

No real idea of the drivng distance or driving times to anywhere in your area. Both ways on I-75 were late at night so traffic was at a minimum.

I don`t drive much any more, Florida was a long trip for me. I have been averaging 3,000 miles a year or so for the last 6 years. I drive fine, just don`t feel well enough to do it often or far.

LOL I currently live in a small town west of Medina Ohio, more Alpacas than people. Nearest shopping is 10 miles away, 15 minute drive. Like to be a bit closer to a grocery store, wal-mart, home depot and stuff but want to stay pretty near I-75, easy access.

I hang out at home most of the time, content with that. Don`t need bars, sports, well maybe fishing. I am able to kep my mind occupied, and my hands busy.

leonard, mention some names so I can have a clue while looking at the websites? Shopping nearby is a plus, nice quiet areas. Don`t need schools nearby. My kids are mostly grown, a vocational school might be needed?

Up here they are part of the regular high school system, but also teach a skilled trade and stuff. Most here have evening classes for adults.

Look in West Hills in Knoxville. It's one of the flatter areas around. There are some large homes there but also smaller ones and some nice condos that are more like single houses. Close to everything, a nice YMCA, parks, churches. Zip code is 37909.
Very convenient to just about anything.
There's a street called Chatham Circle in that area that might suit you. Lots of duplexes, small condo groups (4-6 units), houses. Interesting area. Nice vibe to it. And it's flat.
The flat part is going to be the hard part. Alcoa/Maryville south of Knoxville has some flatter areas. North of Knoxville, you're getting into good sized ridges and hills.

knoxgarden, lived in a condo once, really not for me, same with a duplex, apartment. I get along with people fine, but I am picky on who I hangout with or have around.

Ymca? no need for one or anything like them, churches? I save the people inside by staying out of them. My idea of a park is somewhere to launch a boat on a lake, can`t walk around one anyway.

Don`t need a lot of flat land, just a more or less flat lot on my home, don`t need 3-5 steps to get inside it, one is tough enough. I use an electric scooter outdoors anyway, not much of a walker anymore.

Don`t mind driving, but the destination has to be of interest to me, just don`t need a lot to be content. I find things to occupy my mind and time.

Just not really into night life, bars, tourism, crowds. My idea of a good time is a few friends over for a cookout, plus or minus a few beers. I don`t drink for the most part and like to be close to home.

Now we're narrowing things down. Look in Jacksboro, LaFollette. These are about 30 miles north of Knoxville just off I-75. There's a beautiful state park at the exit, Cove Lake.
TN State Parks: Cove Lake State Park
Jacksboro is the county seat and a small town. Pretty little place. LaFollette is bigger with shopping and medical. Also less ridges, more mountains, out that way so not so many constant changes in elevation and fewer stairs. Steps are a problem in Knoxville and for some reason handrails are often absent, especially on homes.

ohiofisherman, check out Maynardville and Luttrell. Land is cheap there, and the natives just love newcomers! Just ask member armywife85.

LOL Dave, think I read one of her posts, some natives are restless?

Actually one of the homes I like is in Maynardville, 157 Timber Ridge or something like that?

Tall fences make good neighbors? I try not to bother mine here. Peace out!
