Default Knox. Suburbs - advice for visit

I am planning to relocate from Tampa Bay to the Knoxville area in early 2011. I know this is a long way off, but much to plan and a (worthless in Florida) condo to sell! Have visited TN many times in the past, but always as a tourist - but I love the state and said if I ever braved a move, it would be to TN!

I am visiting Knoxville from 10/29 thru 11/1 to get a feel for area, employment possibilities (I'm a paralegal) and the neighboring towns. Looking at Seymour, Alcoa, Maryville, Farragut, Dandridge. All just names to me right now! I would love to hear any advice you have to give on places to visit while in TN. Looking to rent a house for a year or so when I move. Hoping to find a life with less congestion and traffic (although I know I will probably have to commute to Knoxville for work) and more nature! Living in HOT crowded concrete jungle right now and have been for 30 years...thanks so much in advance for your advice!!

Those are not suburbs of Knoxville. Those are towns that are near it.

Well, Dandridge is a bit further out. It would be a little over 30 minutes to get to downtown Knoxville from the center of Dandridge, and could end up being much longer.

And Farragut really is a suburb or Knoxville or at least it used to be.

But it really depend on where you work, which could be downtown or West Knoxville or somewhere completely different!

I am certain, though, that you are going to find Knoxville to have much less traffic and be more laid-back. I'm from swFlorida.

What do you like? Newer homes? Older? Subdivisions? When you buy, what price range are you looking at?

You'll probably end up looking closer-in to the city than those places, well except Farragut which really is a Knoxville 'burb, now it's mostly west Knox actually.

How rural do you want to be? North Knox is great, a true suburb nestled in a lot of nature. If you're looking for more true rural living, I'd look toward South Knoxville out towards Vestal or in the direction of Seymour, or northeast towards Mascot.

Avoiding West Knoxville (Sequoyah Hills through Bearden and Cedar Bluff and Bluegrass to Farragut) will save you money and time unless you just really want the higher-paced retail-based lifestyle. NW Knox (Hardin Valley etc) also might be a good fit...

Like Hik said, depends on where you land a job. Knoxville is sorta really long and sprawled out.
