Healthcare Jobs?
How does a new grad get hired? I am a medical assistant (CCMA, CMAA, CBCS) and can not get an interview because I lack 1 year of experience. I need a job, like everyone else, to pay the bills. Any insight on how to land a job with less than the required experience? Thank you.

If you figure it out, let me know. My fiancee is a new grad nurse in the same boat.

The ole "catch 22". You need experience to get a job, but you need a job to get experience.
Two things that come to mind are to do some internship while you look for a job and I'm strong believer in the power of prayer to my almighty Savior!
Amen,
Frank

I think there might be something tragically wrong with her resume, because they've yet to give us a call.

Has she applied at every hospital and medical center in Knoxville? Sometimes you have to settle for something less then ideal to get your foot in the door. Also they take their time in getting back with you so be patient. It took almost a month and a half for them to get back to me. I had to email the recruiter at least once a week to remind them that I needed a job! Blount Memorial finally called me back three months later. The jobs are there, she just has to be persistent.

You might consider a temping agency. I don't know if they have those over there but some areas have medical/dental staffing temping agencies. You work and get paid and it will count towards your experience. I live in Illinois and when I graduated from dental hygiene school some 15 years ago I started working through a temp agency until a job came through. Sometimes you can get a permanent job through a temp agency too. Good luck. I'm hoping they have such a thing over there because I may need it when I move and get my dental hygiene license over there.

Dental Hygiene
LLuce, I just moved here in July and the market is flooded with RDHs. There are 4 RDH programs within a 2 hr radius. Because you are experienced, it may be easier to get a job. I have 15 years experience as well but am temping until I get hired permanently. Also expect to get paid less due to the surplus.
For RDH, I would recommend Dental Staffing Services out of Oak Ridge. For nursing, One Call Medical might be able to help. One Call Medical also does RDH placement but they are newer to the market and their fees are higher. The only disadvantage to temping is that if the employer wants you for permanent work they have to pay the agency a fee. If you are new to the profession or the area, sometimes making professional connections is as important as making money. Good luck with everyone's job search, we are all in the same boat!
