Are you asking if it will take longer than an hour to get from Knoxville to Greenville SC on? If so....much, much more than an hour! If you are asking if it will take you more than an hour to get from Knoxville to Cherokee on the Smoky Mountain Parkway (441), yes, that is about a 2 to 3 hour drive depending on where in Knoxville you are starting from and how bad the sight seeing traffic is on the parkway.

yes, I was referring to just the pass. MS streets and trips has that whole drive calculated to about 5 hrs. I was thinking I would stop at Nantahala Outdoor Center for dinner and lodging. (should be easy to do, the Nanty river is kinda closes for repairs on th dam.

One time you won't get through pigeon forge in a hurry is Thanksgiving weekend. Traffic will come to a standstill on black friday due to all the outlet malls. Thanksgiving day itself is OK for travelling.

I-40 is closed WEST of the I-40 Maggie Valley exit. If you go from Maggie Valley to I-40 you'll then head EAST and then down to Greenville.

But most likely you will be traveling on 441. I want to caution you not to go directly to I-40 through maggie valley but take the more southerly route (64) that goes past Sylva & Waynesville.
|
I agree with this.

OH your talking about taking US-23 back to Asheville. I'm not planning on returning to Asheville. I plan on heading south into Georgia and swinging past the Nantahala Outdoor Center

I thought you were going back to Greenville, sorry. I was recommending off 441, swing through 64 by Sylva and pick up I-40 to I-26 in Asheville to get back to Greenville.

The route back is still up in the air. I may end up going back thru Asheville again, unsure.
I was wondering if there is another name for this "64", I cant find it.
