Default Jefferson county

I think I have finally narrowed down the area of E. TN that I want to move to, and it is Jefferson County. I'm looking more toward Dandridge. Does anyone have any opinions of the area, negative or positive? From all my research it seems to be a nice area for what we are looking for, lake near by, rolling hills, not too far from Knoxville or Morristown for work when the economy gets better! Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I think Dandridge is a wonderful place. I've never been very impressed with Jefferson City, however, so I think you picked the right town in Jefferson County.

Dandridge is a smidgen closer to Knoxville than Morristown which is probably a good thing. Even when the economy here was really good, it was only so-so in Morristown.

Dandridge is a cute little town with a real, honest-to-God historical downtown area. You can hop right on I-40 and be in East Knoxville in 20 minutes or you can go the other way and be whitewater rafting in the Smoky Mountains in 30 minutes. Downtown Dandridge is right on a big beautiful lake.

There's not much shopping in Dandridge; the local Wal-Mart is in Jefferson City. But in East Knoxville you've got just about everything else: Sears, JCPenney, Belk, Sam's Club, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Home Depot, Ross, and more. Otherwise there's a brand new Food City in Dandridge which is very nice.

If I had to live in Jefferson County I would also choose Dandridge.

Good luck!

Just moved from Jefferson County (New Market, specifically) but have lived all over the county. It's a great area, although the high school needs some SERIOUS work. People are nice, the scenery is gorgeous and it's an easy place to live. Far enough away from the city (Knoxville) that you deal with it on your terms- going in whenever Morristown or Jefferson City can't fulfill your needs, no worries about it becoming an urban area.

Default Jefferson County

Thank you for your responses. It makes me feel like I have made the right decision! It's really hard not being there, but I don't want to be running all over the place once we get there! We are coming out to purchase land & we will only have a week to do so.
Does anyone have any negative things to say about the area other then the High school??

I would suggest to do a search on this forum for "Dandridge". There have been many posts and opinions about the area, might be helpful before you make trip so you can investigate any negatives you may find through the search while you are down here.

I lived in Dandridge for a year. Dandridge is a wonderful small town, very scenic and JMT is right about Dandridge's downtown. I hadn't any problems living in Dandridge.
The thing Bill and I got tired of is the choice of places to eat out was very limited. We were constantly running back to Knoxville for medical appointments and shopping at Sam's. Anyone we came in contact with that worked in the area, were very friendly and nice.Especially the guys that worked at the local garage next to the Agway. They helped us out many times and we were never overcharged or given bad information. They are a great bunch of sincere, honest guys.
Dandridge is far enough away fron Pigeon Forge where you don't have all the tourists traffic, yet it is close enough to be accessible whenever you feel the need to hop over there to play tourist for an afternoon.
The only thing the area doesn't have is a large hospital. If you have any serious heart problems, you are shipped to Knoxville as they aren't equipped to handle that there, but Bill always received excellent medical care there.
There isn't anything else negative we found living in Dandridge, and really my negatives are only negative to us and our lifestyle. Living is easy and quiet there and no rushing around, overall we liked the area very much.
All the best to you on your search,
Pam

The drive took about 20 -30 minutes from Dandridge to East town. What kind of shopping you looking for? Theres a Food City in Dandridge and a walmart in Jefferson City or Sevierville.

No, sorry I don't know of any apartments on a river. I will caution you that Dandridge may be a small town but it is pretty spread out over a wide area. Try to find a place near Food city side of town or near downtown. One side of Dandridge that is on the opposite side of town where Food City is, tends to be very remote and isolated.
