What are the major grocery stores in the Knoxville area? I know we have gasbuddy to check gas prices, but what about food prices. What is the average cost of say loaf of bread, gallon of milk, T.P., soap. Do any stores double coupons?

Hmmm...we were just in that area. We've seen Food Lion, Ingall's, Food City, Piggly Wiggly, and Kroger's. Not sure where I've seen each one, though, sorry--we were in Knox and surrounding counties.

Don't forget Wal-Mart SuperCenters and Super Target. Fresh Market has a couple of locations here, and Earth Fare is the organic supermarket in town. I personally like Super Target the best.

What's better between Food Lion vs. Food City ? Or they're basically the same.

Funny you should ask! I'm in Belgium right now, and Food Lion's parent company is Belgian. They're all over the place here. But in the US I don't really care for Food Lion. The stores are not as large as the new Food City stores that Food City bought from Bi-Lo. Food City is a local company, headquartered in the Tri Cities (Virginia side). They seem to have more local produce than Food Lion and the stores are larger.

I was in Wallonia and Brussels for most of the time but also spent some time in Bruges and Antwerp. I was hoping to find a few stray diamonds on the streets of Antwerp, but alas I'm coming home empty-handed. But I did have to buy an extra suitcase for the (I'm not kidding) 15 lbs of chocolate I'm bringing back! |

nice! Bruges is awesome...the 'Venice of Western Europe'. I spent some time in Liege, and really enjoyed being submersed in the French-speaking side of the country.
Viva La Belgique! |

I recommend Ingles. It's a southeastern chain which has some good stuff.
At least, the ones I've been to do. I usually ended up running to Super Target when I lived in Knoxville (gotta change my location!) because it was handier. |
