Doc, I have the perfect way to challenge the property tax increase- be GONE before it comes due. Since we pay a year behind, we should be living on holy ground by the time the increase hits

As for you question about increase in market value- our house has appreciated about 15% since I bought it, and that was ten years ago. So no- there is no correllation between the FMV of the house and the property tax increase.

Interesting, "no correllation between the FMW...and property tax increase." Sounds almost perfect for a challenge. Just think, if you won; what a fine achievement! Also, it may serve as a nice incentive for a possible buyer.
Otherwise, luck with your goings.

I'm from East TN, and I'm planning on moving back this summer. I agree that the standard of living is probably better there than a lot of other places. It's a beautiful area and a good place to raise kids. I am more than willing to take a pay cut to be back in TN!
