Default Could not get the job...it was nice meeting you

Hello all, just would like to say bye, I will not be moving to TN anytime soon....I just got a feedback that the company will not match my current salary and I don't want to take a cut on my salary.

I'm a true believer that things happen in life for a reason....we like it or not.

Anyway, I still want to move to TN or NC someday. I'll be busy looking for other jobs around my area and trying to avoid selling my house. I will not have much time to check back on this site.

It's been very nice and a GREAT source of information.

It's funny, I know more about East TN than I know about Indiana.

All the luck for all of you. Special thanks for Hik, JMT and MBmouse.

Hoosier07: You are one of the nicest people on this forum. I really looked forward to your moving here and reading about how much you liked it. I do hope it will happen for you one day.

I am really saddened.

Hoosier07: When I moved to where I live now (only 60 miles north), I had to quit my job in the city. I looked in the newspapers and was shocked at the low wages. So, after a year of fighting it, I'm taking a job that is a 1/3 pay cut. It's just the way the wages are around here. Unfortunately, tho, the cost of living is the same, as where I lived before, except home prices are a bit cheaper, but my hubby already owned his home and it was paid off when we married 2 1/2 years ago.
This is in SW PA.

Now, when/if we move to TN, from what I see, the pays are pretty comparable to what I'm used to here in my new area. But, the bonus is - the cost of living is lower, so I'll get more for my money than here. Plus, there's no state income tax.

Please take all of the factors into consideration, before you turn down the lower wages.

blessings. Shen

I am soooo sorry to hear that! I know you've been looking at this potential move for quite some time, but as you said, all things work out and are done for a reason.

Shenandoah makes a good point, too. I took a pretty steep pay cut to move to Knoxville and have never regretted it. Making a lot of money just isn't what motivates me to get up in the morning. But I also don't have a family to support, so what works for me isn't necessarily what works for you.

At any rate, you have been wonderful, and I hope you'll still drop by from time to time to say hey. You'll certainly continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Best of luck to you.

Sorry to hear about your decision not to move, and I can understand, where you are coming from. (I'm in a limbo myself )
But, to take a small paycut is sometimes relative to the state, and the cost of living.
TN has lower wages in some branches, but, the cost of living is way lower as in many other states.
Meaning, your dollar will go way further, then you might be used to.
Also, reading, hearing and talking to people living in TN...seems like some had to take a paycut, lived comfortable with it, worked only a year (or so) to be back at the same pay rate (or higher) they had elsewhere....
But, they were still able to buy a nice house, afford a car, travel, go out....support their lifestyle with their paycut.
It's all relative......and worth checking into.
Good luck, no matter where the wind blows you to, and no matter what you will decide...it has to "feel right" for you and your circumstances!

Housing cost were not any lower from where hooseir07 lives and the cost of living was different but not a massive difference.

always take the money...NEVER take door #1 or door #2

Giving up income is generally always a bad idea, it make you look desperate to some employers, or to your family or friends.....worse yet it can make you look silly..

You can't "cash" slogans like "beaitiful east TN", or the 'gorgoues beaches of Maui"

Hi guys, I missed you and decided to check it out on a Sunday afternoon. I just updated my resume and started a new search in the Indianapolis area, which would avoid the move.

I'm not trying to play hardball with the salary, what happens is that the house sale will be a "wash" for me, basically Indianapolis and Knoxville are in the exactly same price level, so no gains to count on the real state side. A cut in the salary would impact my family standard of living and also not look really good in my resume. Thanks for the kind words ! We will stay in touch, I'll stop by to "watch" you guys and see if you're behaving well.....he..he..he....

Those are the most shallow, uninsightful statements I've ever heard. What stupid advice. People do what makes them happy, and it doesn't always have to mean money.
