My wife's XC70 is starting to have a bit of a "cough" when she accelerates. I haven't checked it out myself yet, but in case I need it, can anyone recommend trustworthy mechanics that work with Volvos?

Push comes to shove, I'll take it to the dealership, but I had a very bad experience the last time I was there.

Thanks in advance!

I know the problem. I used to own Saabs. The one I liked best was Beaman's but I'm not sure they're still in business:
Beaman Imports - Automotive Parts & Services
It may now be:
European Auto Garage | Knoxville BMW | Knoxville Audi | Knoxville Land Rover | Knoxville Mini Cooper | Knoxville Ferrari | Knoxville Lamborghini | Knoxville Minaret | Knoxville Motorsports | Knoxville VW | Knoxville Tires | Knoxville Volkswagen |
When the last Saab died two years ago I gave up and bought a Ford Escape and I remember getting post cards from them about a name change or a mechanic moving. They were good. Not cheap, but good. The European Auto garage is a Tire Rack garage which I give a lot of weight to. I think they put tires on one of my Saabs. They are both on one of those little streets that run between KP and Parkside and they tend to all look similar.
I also got the Saab fixed here:
European Motor Werks2718 Sutherland Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37919-3229(865) 521-6806 .
Did good work but I moved to the other side of town so switched to Beaman's.
You might also want to visit this place:

I think they used to be off of North Central. I stopped in once with the Saab but he was busy and preferred working on Volvos. If they don't do the work, they can tell you who does.
With the Saabs, I used to visit the places and check out how many Saabs, particularly really old ones, they had waiting for repair. It was a scouting technique that served me well.

Beaman's is still there. They're right next door to European Auto Garage.

Just to follow up on this, I took the car to Beaman's and they did a fantastic job! I highly recommend them if anyone is looking for an alternative to the local dealership.

I have to be very, very careful here because I do not want to violate the TOS. But I can say that an independent shop will work on all cars, including imports. An independent shop will have the computer analyzers for foreign vehicles. Let me add that they should, anyway.

Thanks? If that's something I should know more about, can you PM me with a bit more detail?
