My family is considering relocating to the Knoxville area and know very little about the community. I would be grateful for any information or opinions on which areas have the better schools. Someone mentioned that West Knoxville (Farragut) might be a good place to be. Do folks know this area?

I was also wondering if traffic is much of an issue in Knoxville - and in any particular direction.

Thanks

Some folk will tell you that schools in West Knox / Farragut are superior, but that's only because schools in West Knox / Farragut are in wealthy neighborhoods where the parents tend to be more educated. Schools in more blue-collar North Knox are just as good and prepare students just as well for college.

About the only areas of Knox County to avoid are schools in East Knoxville (not East Knox County) and only because that's the part of Knoxville with more crime.

Depending where you're moving from, traffic in Knoxville (especially West Knox) can be pretty bad. But if you're moving from someplace like L.A., Atlanta, or South Florida, Knoxville traffic is a breeze.

Here is a web site to the Knoxville schools.
Knox County Schools

On the left hand column of the home page is a button that says 2006 Report Card.
