Default Moving to Newport

I've read the Newport threads and driven around the town quite a bit. I found a house I like that sits "on the hill" overlooking the river and downtown. (You can literally see the house I like from everywhere in downtown when the trees are bare.) I'm just wondering if anyone has specific info about that area in regards to crime, noise, etc.

Um, wow...

The degree of welcome that you receive will be based on where you are hailing from. If you are from Ohio or Florida, then please, for your own sake, choose some place else as your peers who have already moved here have ruined any hope you may have of a peaceful, successful assimilation.

I like it here, but if I had known then what I do now (See where this is going?), I would have chosen some place a little less insular and corrupted such as Hamblen county. Right after we moved here, the huge corruption sting that state officials had been working on became public, and we learned that the sheriff and/or his family was involved in a number of criminal activities. Here's a link for you:

My personal favorite, however, has to be this one detailing the corruption in local government and law enforcement:

Cocke County Confidential Information & News from Knoxville News Sentinel (Knoxville, TN)

While the second doesn't mention the recent findings against a local judge and a few more goodies, it does give you a really good idea of what to expect.

If I were you, I'd look for some place in Hamblen county or Dandrige.

Newport is actually in Cocke County and not Hamblen County so, since you referenced both counties, which are you recommending to avoid?

It is pretty clear from the text you bolded that she is recommending Hamblen County over Newport/Cocke County.
