The report says it occurred at 5:28 EDT, but it may be a coincidence that I heard and felt a boom at exactly one hour later in East Brainerd. I thought it was thunder, but it was the only crack of thunder I heard all morning. Wonder if the report misstated the time as the central time when it occurred. Anyone know for sure?

Probably so, shinestx. Too much of a coincidence otherwise. Did you feel anything in addition to hearing the boom?

It was the correct time, at least that was the time on the alarm clock when we were awakened by the boom and shake. Very noticeable in my neck of the woods!

There were reports that you could hear a sonic boom from the shuttle landing and that might be closer to the right time for what you heard. Give or take 6:30 Central time.

We live about 7 miles south of Maryville, the area where it came from. At about 5:30 I was awakened by a boom and a rattle. At first, coming from the Gulf Coast near an air base, I thought it was a sonic boom, but it seemed a bit strange to be that.

I found out what it was on the way to work today.

Being from Southern CA, small earthquakes don't even wake me up. I lived a mile away from the epicenter of the Sylmar earthquake in 72. Now THAT was an earthquake.

I woke up around 5:30 as well. Assumed it was the bathroom calling but now wonder if it was the earthquake.

Slept right through it and this is the first I have heard of it.

I was awake (N. of Alcoa still) and didn't notice a gosh darn thing. I'm kind of disappointed, I have been oblivious to every seismic event since I have moved here.
