Sprinkler Systems?
Are these very prevalent in KNoxville? We pretty much have to have them in Missouri if you want to have a decent yard through the summer...so I wondered if it would be a good idea to have one put in down in Knoxville.
Any reputable companies I should contact?

I don't see many systems
It's better to have a system, but I am wondering the same thing after living here for a year.
The current drought certainly makes me favor a sprinkler system.... I've been using a hose sprinkler, and it does just fine.
Tennessee seems to get a lot of rain, but July and August tend to be the dryer months which makes things tough on the yard.
Frankly, I'm considering just filling my yard with trees....dogwoods and non-deciduous and creating more of a shade yard. That way, the watering isn't such an issue....and I can let the ivy or some other vine take over instead of that annoying/high maintenance grass.
I always feel guilty putting fresh clean water on a yard full of useless grass.

I had noticed there weren't a lot of sprinkler systems (or it didn't appear that way), so that's why I was asking. I would love to put one in right away, but I'm not sure that will be possible.
I plan to plant a lot of trees, but it takes a LONG time for those to have any real effect.

I don't think there are many sprinkler systems because it usually isn't needed.
I rent but I do have a yard. It isn't as lush as it normally is due to the drought, but it still is growing like crazy.

If you have never had a system and you truley want a top knotch landscape/lawn, an irrigation system is usually required. However, I am not from your area of the country, but down here in SE Louisiana, we get plenty of rain as well as having a high water table lol and the better looking properties have irrigation systems. Buyer beware do your homework on the company that installs them and the products the use. Remember it is all underground and you can't see what they have done in building the system. I'm in the business, here a contractor needs a special credential to install them, because of the potential problems. If I can be of any help let me know.

If you have the time and don't mind digging the trenches for the sprinkler lines, you can install a sprinkler system yourself. It is not "rocket science." You can probably find information on how to do this yourself at Home Depot or Lowes. You can also purchase everything you need there. I installed an automatic sprinkler system in my back yard and actually enjoyed doing it. You'll save a lot of money doing it yourself.

Old thread, but did you ever put in an irrigation system, mjb62676? I'm having to move some of my lines and change the heads due to building out my fence and enlarging a pond. I'm talking to two of the companies you mention-- and one of them put in my original system-- so I'm curious about your experience.

We haven't yet, but have selected the person we're gonna go with. He just broke off from Smoky Mtn. Irrigation this year and uses all commercial stuff.
I'm just waiting on the county to tell me what I need to do about my "sinkhole" before moving forward.

I can vouch for Rainscapes and Duck as doing good work. I used to work for an Irrigation Distributor in the area and worked with these guys frequently. Peachtree Irrigation is another good one.
