Las Cruces has winter if you call having it snow in town
to be winter. To someone from Minnesota, Vermont, or
Germany it wouldn't count as winter - maybe late Autumn.

The average low temperature in Las Cruces is below 30
from Dec 6th to January 29 with a lowest average
temperature of 26 on January 9th.

It has been as low as 5 degrees in 1987 and as low as
11 degrees in 1996 and 16 in 2005. (In proper Centigrade
temperatures as are used in Europe that's -15, -12, -9)

There hasn't been much snow since the 60's/70's, but I
think it snowed a few inches there this winter one day.

Phoenix is about 40 times bigger than Las Cruces and Tucson is
about 7 times bigger. If you turn on the news and see a murder
once every 40 days in Las Cruces that's the same as having one
every day in Phoenix from a personal risk standpoint.

From the ground level in your neighborhood, you won't find the
living there any different unless you need to drive all the way
across town.

If you really hate winter PHX/TUC are the places to be. If your
daughter is dependent on a bus, the public transit network is
much better in parts of Phoenix. She would be able to attend
ASU from a much greater distance than NMSU.

You'll also find your options for medical care to be better in the
bigger cities. NM has a medical caregiver shortage.
Of course, when it does snow in Las Cruces, it melts within just a few hours. There is no real winter here. I purely hated Phoenix and Tucson, but it does get extremely HOT i those cities and there are many other problems there that are nhot in Las Cruces.

There happens to ne 2 hospitals in Las Cruces and of course El Paso is a very short dirve away with many hospitals and the VA facilities.

I don't understand why one would say that one can attend from greater distances, to a college that is. That just does not make sense at all.

There is public transportation in Las Cruces and it is not just the local bus system. There are cabs and also some other local transportation vehicles. Las Cruces is a smaller town and easier to get to know people. AZ is ok if you like very rude people. NM has, for the most part, very friendly people and YES, there are a few rude ones but overall, they are much more friendlier here.

I thought that too. We have been here for a decade and there most certain ly is 4 seasons and one can tell when they start and stop. Must be people who have never lived here that say that it does not have 4 seasons. The fall just falls later in the year than it would in Missouri. The spring actually is only about 1 month sooner than it is in Missouri. It does get hot here bit in no way lasts for 4 - 5 months like some have said. In fact, the hottest part of the year lasy about 2 months, sometimes up close to 3 months but ever so rarely.

The bus system is extremely reliable. I am surprised at the negatives from people who apparently have no idea what they are talking about or have never lived in the area.

One of the best areas to check out for townhouses, condos, etc. is Sonoma Ranch in Las Cruces. We just moved into this area, and love it.

The public transit system in Las Cruces is not great compared to larger cities. Yes, you can get around on it if you must, but the buses are very infrequent and it takes a long time. They are implementing changes to the system this fall but I doubt that it will improve significantly. Your daughter would get around much quicker on a bike, if she can't get a car.

Riding a bike in Cruces is fine. I did it for years. I would ride to classes and around town for enjoyment. I even road my bike to Palacios bar (friend was the bartender).

Hello Everybody,
Many thanks for the help so far, you were all very kind. I'm now primarily concentrating on LC, it seems like my kind of a place. Could anybody comment on the possibility of getting a "first job" with a communication / PR degree (for my daughter)?
Thanks again !
