Is that safest from crime or auto accidents? I don't live there but I do live
close by and I go there often and it is a nice city. The winters are quite nice
and the summers are tolerable if you can take some heat.

It was presented in Best Places.com and they used Crime, Natural Disasters, Enviromental Hazards, Job Losses etc...and Las Cruces led the nation in their listing...

Default Las Cruces...

That is extremely remarkable information. Seeing as I've driven through that medium sized city nearly half a dozen times in my life I love how the city is layed out. Las Cruces is not large at all in any way but my most recent experience in that city was really eye-opening I guess you could say. I could not believe my eyes that I saw bumper to bumper traffic backed up for a few miles in that city just like on many larger cities streets. I thought that was sort of cool to see, because then I was able to see the people of the city and be a spectator since I did not live there. I love the "white sands" areas nearby to Las Cruces that are very similar to Florida. Also, I think there is an overwhelming military presence in that area as well which is also cool. Its close proximity to El Paso is probably what makes it all worth while and more livable. Anyway....I may not have described the city as a local native would but that was my point of view. Oh yeah, and I heard from a friend of mine that the nightlife over there sucks!??...is that true? Sorry....just curious to know.

We've only had 2 murders so far this year. Smaller towns in Southern NM have had more. For instance, Anthony NM has 8,000 people and has already suffered 2 murders as well. Violent crime isn't as a big a problem as property crime. If you were to count B & E, burglary, etc, the statistics would likely rise.
