Default Las Cruces

Is Las Cruces a bad town? my friend is from there and he is always talking about how he grew up in the ghetto, but i kinda don't believe him. I think he just says it because i'm from North Minneapolis and he always tries to be like me and he says that it is worse than north Minneapolis. He also says that it has a lot of gangs too. Is that true or not?

hahahahah

well I've lived in Minneapolis so i know a little bit about it, haven't lived in LC, I've been there and I hope to live there some day, it's a pretty nice town. If LC has a real ghetto, which I doubt..alough it may have a few tough areas.. I would guess it's a piece of cake compared to Mpls worst. Generally I think Mpls is a nice big city but there are some areas there where life would be really hard. Now if your comparing ABQ to Mpls well that could be a push. IMHO

There's no ghetto in Las Cruces, although there is a barrio. There are quite active gangs. NOnetheless, it's not exactly a crime haven.

What is a barrio? I've heard it mentioned a couple times but I never knew what it was.

Las Cruces is not ghetto. There are some "gang wanna - bees" and that's pissing me off. But it's not exactly a crime heaven. Although, you have some drugs around here. I live in Las Cruces, but I don't know those people, so it doesn't bother me none.

A barrio is a Spanish speaking neighborhood and they often look a bit like Ghettos.

If you live in almost any large midwest or eastern american city Las Cruces
will seem like paradise with very little crime compared to those big cities.
I would think drugs are the biggest problem. While I think Las Cruces is a very nice city and for the most part very clean it is definitely a big box town
with very little or no urban core like most of our midwest cities or smaller towns. If you are looking for a smaller nice clean town without any of the
older type multi story buildings downtown, you will probably love it. It gets
quite warm in the summer but not as hot as Tucson and has a mild winter
but still not quite as mild as Tucson/Phoenix. Real estate prices are probably
approaching the cost of Tucson properties but not quite as high yet.

I agree with Designer's post. I've been a resident of central Massachusetts all my life and have traveled to many US states. After years of research and visits to New Mexico, Im relocating to Las Cruces in September. Compared to Northeast cities, Las Cruces is much, much more desireable when it comes to lack of crime, wonderful climate, infrastructure, and friendly people. I've gotten lots of information from this forum and am grateful to the nice folks posting here
