Question Community Supported Ag in or near Las Cruces?

Hi, I was wondering if there is a local CSA her in Las Cruces or nearby. We'd really like to check one out and see if it's for us. Thanks!

I do not see "Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)" listed in Las Cruces here: New Mexico Farmers' Markets: Farmers Markets/CSAs But that web page pretty much covers various farmers throughout New Mexico.

Your best bet would be to visit the Wed/Sat morning Farmer's Market on Main Street in the downtown area and make inquiries there about communal style farms in the area. I know there are some associated with places like "trailer town" or condo communities and at least one school program that farms on donated 15 acres of land in the valley. But not sure about other membership operations. There is at least one NM-wide farm business that sells memberships and delivers farm-fresh goods to a central pickup location on a weekly basis. Try searching SKARSGARD FARMS on Google.

Default Local Organic Produce

We have started getting home deliveries of organic produce every other week from Preferred Produce in Deming. Their website is at :: Preferred Produce, Inc :: and you can visit them at the Las Cruces Farmers Market on Saturdays to ask questions about the service.

We used to get a weekly box from a CSA in Mesilla, but the farm was sold. We loved the experience of going directly to the farm and miss that. However, the produce we are getting now is really wonderful. The lettuce is packaged so that it still has a root plug attached. As long as you keep a little water in the bottom of the package it is still alive and doesn't need to be refrigerated. Very fresh!

I would contact two places that should be able to help you.

First, try the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum. They were able to provide me with a lot of information about Las Cruces area farms.

Second, I would contact the NMSU Cooperative Extention.
