I had a dream last night about snakes but they're usually calm in my dreams and they don't hurt me. They usually talk to me.
Anyway, the only snakes I've seen in this area so far have been green snakes.
He/She is about a foot long and glow in the dark green. Does this snake sound familiar to you Pintada or to anyone? I'd like to know if he's poisonous or not. Haven't seen any in several months though.

Doesn't sound like the poisonous species to me (rattlers/copperheads).....if it has a very pointed tail, it's non-venomous. Blunt tail, poisonous.

Is this it?

Snakes...not yet...here in Fence Lake sooo far not too many "shaky tails" seen that last couple years.
But, that could change...

I do were snake gaters when down in the Deming/Lordsburg areas and also up here in some rocky areas.
My hearing is not that good but I do see um..

HW...Happy safe Trails.

Cathy, I think he had a smoother body than your picture. Don't remember what his tail looked like.
Vinegaroon, he was all one color green.
The green color is like a glow in the dark flourescnt green.

Song, to my knowledge we have no little green snakes in NM that are poison. Rattlesnakes are a problem. And yes, to all the snake lovers, I shoot the ones on the patio or in the yard. Just cannot take the chance of stepping on one at night or in the day. Medical care is too far away. Kid, snakes have routinely come out about the 15th of May and does not seem to depend on the temperatures. Have been told it has to do with the amount of daylight?

I agree, I would not tolerate rattlesnakes or copperheads in the yard AT ALL.

Others get picked up and moved outside the gate.

Default Jobs and Snakes in Las Cruces....

How bad is the job market right now in Las Cruces? I live in Las Vegas and we're right about at 10% unemployment just like California. Is Las Cruces just as bad? How would you say the job market is in Las Cruces during good economic times? My skills vary from low skilled work (janitorial both as emplyee and as a self employed janitor service and also medium skills doing web design and web development work self employed presently but badly effected by the bad economy). Is it hard to get a job at the unversity or community college in Las Cruces? Here is Vegas like California it is difficult if you don't know the right people and I'm talking just a simple janitor job not a medum or higher skilled one.

Also I've read a numbers of posts here about snakes in Las Cruces. Is it common to find a snake in your apartment or home in Las Cruces? Here in vegas we get centipedes pretty often in our apartment but those don't scare me too much since they move so slow. We also got one tiny baby snake in our apartment that I vacuumed up with my trusty Eureka vacuum but that only happened once in all the 15 years I've lived in Vegas. We also got a few scarry looking giant spiders that looked like vinnigretes, or baby faces not sure but they were scarry looking critters.
However snakes are another matter entirely and if snakes were fairly commonly found in apartments or homes here and there like we have centipeds that would totally freak me out to the max! So just have to ask is it a common thing in Las Cruces to find snakes in your homes and apartments? If so this may not be the right place for me? Need to know. Thanks.

I've never seen a snake here, although I know that they are around. Certainly haven't had one in my house

Don't know about the unemployment rate currently.

bfire52,
I think that if you want a job and are persistent enough, you'll have no trouble finding work. I'm rarely affected by the media's portrayal of anything because it's all dire to them. My whole family lives in Cruces and they've never encountered the "knowing the right people" issue. Good luck with your search.

As far as snakes go, I've never run into a snake in Cruces in all the years I've lived there. Scorpions, yes. I'm sure they are out there, I've never seen them, though. Now, in 5 years in Tucson, I saw tons, especially on the golf course.
