Desert Peace: I live in Texas, and ever since I first visited NM, it has called to me. Some of what it says is unprintable, but it's calling! The only place I like nearly as much is Far West Texas, south of New Mexico (Alpine/Marfa/Fort Davis). There is definitely something about NM that no other place has. It just feels absolutely real, and enchanted at the same time. I feel it every time I cross the state line into it!

catman! YES!!!

We always enter into New Mexico over Raton Pass from Colorado. When we cross the summit, and below I can see New Mexico spread out before me .... I can feel the change inside of me .... a little bit excitement, a little bit peace ~ I know I have come home. It's the strangest thing and impossible to put into words. But those who have felt it .... know ....

If you go to a New Mexican restaurant, you'll notice lots of "Mexican" offerings: tacos, green chile stew, enchiladas, etc.

Because of the chiles in this part of the world, entrees like those noted above, have a distinctive, spicey flavor that is germaine to NM.

My lady friend (of many, many years) is Mexican, and she often notes the diffference in taste between NM and Mexican food.

In any event, New Mexican food is another plus for living in the Land of Enchantment.

"lots of Mexican food, which I cook and love. . . ."

DesertPeace: I'll be there in NM just as soon as I can! I hope to at least visit next year, with the intention of looking around to decide where I want to move to most of all (a hard choice). I'm thinking it will be Alamogordo or Socorro at this point.

Towanda: I have most often entered NM on Hwy 380, between Plains, TX and Tatum, NM, and although the appearance changes very little, there's a distinct and different feel to it. I can tell I'm no longer in TX. It seems less hard-bitten and more free somehow. I've also come in once from Kenton, OK at the western end of the OK Panhandle, which is really the back way, cattle guards and all, but loads of fun.

Take care on your odyssey...we will only have to traverse one state nearly straight down to TorC and then we will finally be "home".

DR: I don't want the responsibility of "confirming [your] decision"! I love NM, but I have never lived there, and results may vary. You'll have to decide for yourself!

That sounds like one heck of a trip, all right. I like to travel by motorcycle, so I wouldn't do that this late in the year! Starting about April, I would. I hope to meet you in NM one of these days - Joe.
