Hi!
You might try Sitel and Convergys both which are call centers here in LC.
Sitel serves DirecTV and Convergys serves AT&T.
Sitel pays around $9.00 to start and Convergys pays about $9.50.
Sitel is also in ABQ. They have a major call center there that you can see from the 25 or 40 freeways. Can't remember which one but its there right off the freeway.

The Motel 6 I stayed in on Telshor? was $87 a night. Never heard of one costing that much and a personal size pizza and coke was $14 at Uno's. So very high compared to Indiana. Hope this helps out.

There's plenty of cheaper places to live, eat and stay. And if they can fill their apartments with those strict rules then they have no reason to loosen their standards.

I'm sure that the locals know where to get good deals. I however did not. I spent a week there and the apts I found in the $500 price range were filthy and noisy. As far as eating, I ate where it was close to the motel and none of them were reasonalble. McDonlds yes, but an actual meal was expensive.

So you agree that your limited experience doesn't qualify you to make a general comparison with Indiana? All the places near your chosen Motel 6 are chain restaurants, sit-down chain restaurants tend to have high prices.
It appears that Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowedsome place in Indiana is more expensive than Las Cruces and Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowedsome other place in Indiana is cheaper than Las Cruces.

I agree that I had a limited experience but still wanted to offer my opinion. If someone is coming into the area cold as I did it might help them to know how expensive I found it to be. I was very frugal on my trip and it cost me about $1200 for gas, food, and motels for 8 days. I posted my comments based on what happened to me trying to relocate. Might have done better if you had been there to help me . Will say the weather was beautiful. One comment that is a fact, from Clovis all the way to LC you drive for miles and never even pass another car! Police vehicles? NONE. What do people do if they need help out there? Spiders the size of IN turtles crossing the road, no phones or businesses? Scenic by-ways and safety-corridors were the scariest trip of my life. I stopped at every gas station I came to for fear I wouldn't see civilization again for who knows how long. There was a biker rally at Ruidoso that weekend and in talking with some of them I realized I had done a stupid thing traveling by myself on long stretches of road with no cops anywhere. Lots of areas didn't even get cell phone signals. They were older folks like myself (50's) and said they always traveled in groups for that reason. Granted, that's not LC but I had to go through all that to get there. When I left LC there was a barricade with cops checking for illegals right before the exit to the base and I didn't see another one till I got to the Texas state line. I stopped for 2 different bike accidents and there was nothing, ablsolutley nothing to do for them. If not for the other bikers who were going on to the next town to get help I guess the one guy would have just laid there and got eaten by the spiders. Different down your way.

Those spiders the size of Indiana snapping turtles are interstellar pets that escaped from a crash in Roswell back in the 40's. Maybe you've heard about it? They're delicious cooked over an open fire and make great tacos. Mmmmmmm Sure they're a little scary, but they DO clean up all the dead bikers....
If long, lonely stretches of road and bad cell service give you the willies, the West ain't for you, Hoosier. Sorry it didn't work out.

I just did a quick internet search and found plenty of apartments in the $400-$600 range with security deposits around $400. If you can't afford a high end apartment, you probably don't belong in one; there are plenty of less expensive alternatives.

See how relative things are? I find may things here so much cheaper than in New England, including housing.

Well, if you get upset over long stretches of road without seeing anything else for miles, I'd say New Mexico would be a poor fit for you, so it's a good thing you found that out before moving!
I was used to the same in West Texas, so NM was not such a stretch for me. I traveled all over NM by myself from one end to the other (all of north and south and a good portion of east to west), and the only scary experience I had was going through the Santa Fe National Forest in late February on an unpaved road. I found out I was a pretty damn good driver to get through that without sliding down the side of the mountain or getting stuck--without 4WD. I learned a very hard lesson, and will file it for the future.
If you got by on $1200 for EVERYTHING for 8 days, you ARE frugal, LOL!!

Hey, glad you made it through the forest, I probably wouldn't have. One thing that helped me not spend so much was that I was too upset to eat. LOL
I too went by the apts on Craigslist and American Classifieds when basing my decision to move there. After getting there and seeing some of them for $400 or $650 that to me were not very good, I went to the complexes. As far as the comment if I can't afford a higher end rental I probably shouldn't be in one, I know where I belong so that's why I came home. It wasn't a wise decision to lower my housing and salary all for the sake of the weather. But don't you think twice when I'm digging out of the snow I'll be thinking of that beautiful city of LC!!
