Angry Cruces newcomers - Sick of the wind yet?

Geez, even after 30 years off and on and being fully aware it would come, the last two days have officially driven me crazy. I have dirt in every orifice that was not covered with clothes. Had to spend most of the day on the west mesa down by the Santa Teresa airport and visibility was about 40 feet. It just plain SUCKS!!!!! A tortuous combination of constant noise, dirt, having stuff blow away that you have to run down and worst of all, a yard FULL of trash from somewhere else. My shed blew over today while I was at work and my garden implements are strewn all over the yard too. I'm not even going to deal with it today. I hope it's nice Saturday cause I have a boat load of work to do.

Thankfully it'll be over in a few more weeks, at least this sort of brutal stuff. Thank you for sharing my misery, you know it likes company right?

It's not just Cruces, we had 40 mph gusts last night and it's been windy here ALL day. I am in between two freshly tilled alfalfa crops so it's the same story here, lots of dust but suppose be calm tomorrow (I hope!). I am dying to get into my garden!

Does it seem like we have had more wind this year than the last few years? It seems like its been blowing since December. Or is this just my wild imagination?

Kim....no it is not your imagination. FACT!, unfortunately at least from my perspective. Newcomers don't need to think this is a yearly thing, as I have experienced it, at least.

I was born in EL Paso and left for many years...moved to LC in 1996 form Co. Without question, this is the worst since we have moved back....blame it on Arizona ( I have about two inches of Eastern AZ in my Pool.).

Still a great place to live...if one likes sunshine, warm weather and lots of skies and mountains.

Keep the faith!

Chuck

Did you see the tornado damage in quite a number of areas in areas east of us?

Every where I've ever lived has some wind, especially in the spring when the warm weather is moving in. We're so spoiled in this part of the country because we just get a little dirt blowing around while others get tornados, blizzards, hurricanes, and earthquakes.

I know, I know and I'm happy I live here. Like I said, I've lived through it for most of the past 30 years and I'm still here. It does make you crazy though. Nothing wrong with a little "complaining" every now and then.

It's nice a calm this am, hope it last through the day.

And yes, I agree it's been one of the windiest years I can remember - a windy winter isn't usual.

I've been taking a morning walk for several years and yesterday's winds turned my usual 2-mile pleasure meander into a tortuous trek.

I yearn for those December morns of 20 degrees, glistening sun, and NO wind.

Wink Think that's wind you're having in Cruces?

Gosh, I just read about you poor guys with a couple of weeks of wind to endure and the tears are still streaming down my windburned cheeks. Tears of laughter. Tears because one of our 60 mph gusts whisked my cat up into the top of the neighbor's tree last week. Can't use a ladder, those all blew away. The current plan is to wait until the wind shifts and hope she lands back in one of our trees this time.

Like wind? Come on over to Little Texas, here on the High Plains. The winds start in November and end in...umm, not sure when they end. The early morning suburban streets are filled with groggy folk in odd pajama outfits who just snuck out to grab the newspaper, only to find that it has blown away down the middle of the road. It's the one time I'm assured of seeing who lives in the neighborhood and what they wear (or don't) at night.

cruces-newcomers-sick-wind-yet-blowing-20soil.jpg(Looking for the newspaper)

I know people who keep their false teeth in their pockets most of the time, just in case. My glasses actually blew right off my face yesterday. I bent down to retrieve them and realized I was behind an SUV that was about to back out and over me. It was like a Laurel and Hardy movie. Luckily a really big gust lifted me six feet south, just in time to avoid being another parking lot fatality.

We all have something called "the Clovis do" on our heads because we know better than ever combing our hair until we get inside of wherever we are going. People with toupees make fast friends with the duct tape dealer here.

Only once did I make the mistake of sweeping up the sidewalk after mowing. Now I just wait a minute and it all goes over to the neighbor's place and on down the block.

Don't like your dog? Put him out back in the yard and he'll just blow away and find a new home. Don't like your husband? Wait for one of the really big gusts...

Am I sick of the WIND? In a word, no. I come from this:

Day after dreadful cold gray sky day, 4 months out of the year. The wind? I'll take this every day the rest of the year if it means not having to shovel snow.
