I am moving to Las Cruces sometime this year. I am going into "semi-retirement" mode, so I am not necessarily looking for a high-paying job, but I would like to find some sort of office or administrative job or even a call center job that offers health care benefits. Are jobs like this easy to get in Las Cruces? I've heard wage levels here are low. What range should I expect to earn per hour?

Default Job Market in Las Cruces?

I am moving to Las Cruces this year. I'll be in "semi retirement" mode, so I'm not really looking for a big salary job, but I would like a job in an office type setting with medical benefits. I've heard that wages here are lower than they are in my home town of Indianapolis, but I do have a pension and savings. I'd like to make enough at a job to pay the bills so I can leave my savings alone for a few years. Are jobs like this fairly easy to find? If so, what can expect to get per hour for this type of work? To clarify, I have a Risk Management / Insurance background. I'd love to find a job at an insurance agency, or I would also consider a call center job. I've got a lot of interpersonal communication and organization skills and think I'd be happiest working in an office since I've worked in one most of my life. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I think there are a few call centers in the area. Office jobs are tougher to get. They usually go to someone they know..family, friends, etc...

Thanks for your response. I will look into a call center job for sure. Any idea what those kind of jobs pay?

I would guess that, like Albuquerque, those sorts of jobs pay around $9-11 per hour. It may be that the only thing at the time you look is below that, but once established in town, you can later do better.

Last I heard, the call centers paid around $8/hr. Not sure about benefits. There's a couple new call centers opening up, so it shouldn't be difficult finding work. The overall unemployment rate is very low, so there might be opportunities elsewhere as well.

What about jobs in the nursing sector? My wife is an RN with specialty training/experience in OB/GYN.

There's 2 hospitals here that probably need nurses. I also know people that work at hospitals down in El Paso.
