Coas: My Book Store - Las Cruces
Is Coas: My Book Store still located in Las Cruces NM?
I have heard that the Downtown mall there was looking at renovations, and that the store may of been asked to relocate due to these changes. So I was wondering if they moved or if they are still there where they have always been?

It's still there. The owner is a friend of mine and I know he's participated, as a business owner, in the comittee's and everything to decide how downtown will be revitalized. It's a neat place!

Mike and I have been friends for a long time too.. Well I have always considered him a friend... I wanted to marry his sister. lol =) always had a crush on her. Their Dad has always been a decent fellow, friendly and kind. I guess this weekend I will have to make a trip out that way and pay them a visit. I once went to Las Vegas to see the store there.. I heard they closed it down though. Do they still sell game stuff?
I used to run the Southwest Gamers Assoc. Conventions in El Paso.. someone there liked my name so much they stole it and started a game group under that name.

Hey Muhnay....have you ever thought about starting your Game Store in Las Cruces instead of El Paso ???? Rent your houses out in EP and move to LC as property taxes are extremely lower over here.

Believe me I have considered it.. don't know if its far enough away from El Paso though.. lol. But to be honest I would not want to compete with Coas.. they have always been very good to me.

I absolutely love used book stores, and Coas is no exception. It's one of the few places of interest in the Downtown Mall and is essentially surrounded by a ghost town. I can spend hours just browsing in there. Staff is always helpful and I keep seeing the same faces, which is a good sign - must be a good place to work. The place is packed on Saturday mornings during the farmer's market - I imagine they get the majority of their business each week just during those few hours.
One complaint: VHS videos priced at $5 - that's way too high, in my opinion. They must have thousands of VHS including many duplicates, but at 5 bucks they are just not going to sell. VHS tapes at thrift stores and pawn shops are more like $1-2, and I even find them for 50¢ sometimes. Coas could liquidate that outdated, gathering dust inventory and mark them all for $2 each or 10/$1 each or some deal - make more room for the piles and piles of books they have lying around. I'd buy a bunch! But not at $5, sorry.

One more thing nobody mentioned - Coas has a satellite store on Solano Ave. It's not as big, which is actually kind of a plus. Still lots of good stuff, plus a whole section of games/cards/comics/action figures etc. I went there once on a Saturday afternoon and was humored by a group of what I would call gaming nerds feverishly discussing some video game, sitting around the front counter area.

Coas is an important part of quality of life in the LC area IMHO. My wife ends up dragging me out after a couple hours...I could stay all day.
