I think Nellie's just received a violation by the state of NM. That's pretty shocking, because I always thought it was a relatively clean place.

As someone who was inspected (my restaurant, that is) dozens of times, I know that the seriousness of a violation is all about the details. It doesn't necessarily mean rat's running the kitchen (ala Ratatouille) or unsafe food, but can easily be a technical violation an equipment violation or an number of other things. Most home kitchens, no matter how clean, could not pass a restaurant type inspection. There would be a whole list of violations in most homes. Do you ever put warm soup, stock or sauce in the refrigerator without chilling it first? That'll get you written up in most states. Just an example.
I'm not in NM at the moment so I don't know what their violation was.
But I agree that Nellies (unlike Dick's) is a clean operation as far as I've been able to observe with trained eyes.
And their food is pretty darn good.

I'm guessing some others here are regular posters over at the LC Sun News Topix forums, where they've censored the word Dick's to come out as ****'s, even in the threads about reviews and news about the plethora of Dicks in this town. Smokey Dicks - that will never get old, in my book.

I've been really happy every time I've been to Brigit's Cross in Picacho Hills. I'm glad I work in that area of town and I hope it maintains enough business to stick around.

Meson de Mesilla has reopened, and it looks very interesting! I'm not in Mesilla right now, but look forward to a few visits to this beautiful spot when I return.

I think you'd be referring to Day's. Right near Southwest Environmental Center.

I read the newspaper review and it seems a wonderful place to eat, however the prices aren't much different than comparable restaurants here in Chicago.
