Dick's son Bobby has been taking care of the main place there for years, I'm sure he will continue to do so. Sorry to hear about Dick's passing, I remember him being there and very active in the business when I used to go there a lot.

Another place I enjoyed, was the gas station on S. Valley, where they sold tons of burrito's. A very nice Lady named Mary used to own it years ago.

I posted this a while ago in Great Spots, but it belongs here.

New Mexico/Mexican
Chope's (a SPICY local experience in La Mesa, do not miss)
Andale & El Comedor (in Mesilla but not on the plaza)
Si Senor (slick, but I must admit it's pretty good)
Enrique's (very humble surroundings, great chow for lunch)
Nellies breakfast & lunch only, come late for lunch, it's crowded
La Posta in Mesilla, a famous atmosphere choice, but worth one visit
Beltran's Meat Market, when you want a top quality BIG lunch
Las Trancas
Italian
SI Italian Bistro (great desserts as well)
Lorenzos de Mesilla (not the ones in LC)
Savinos
Asian
Lemongrass (Thai, only one in town, dinner)
Asian Mix (Pacific Rim, come for dinner)
Aqua Reef (sushi, etc.)
There really is no great Chinese food in LC, but we get "to go" food from Wok n World and enjoy it.
Misc.
International Delights (Middle Eastern lunch, great desserts pastries)
Taste of India (decent, not amazing, but the only Indian food in town)
The Shed great breakfasts & lunches
St. Clair Bistro (owned by St. Clair winery, nice for lunch or dinner)
Meson de Mesilla (pricey but as good as fine dining gets in LC area, great live jazz!
I'd eat a couple cheap dinners to save up for this.
Double Eagle/Peppers (actually, I usually just have a Margarita in the bar, which is worth a visit. If I'm going to spend a bunch of money at dinner (DE is pricey) I'd have my Margarita visit at DE, do a Mesilla walkaround and do dinner at Meson de Mesilla)

Steaks: the local choice Cattlemans is inferior. I pick Cattle Baron, a chain, because it's better quality.
Seafood: Oh man...when Red Lobster is as good as it gets, you know there's trouble.
Mariscos Cancun is decent Mexi-seafood, but inferior to what you get in
Mexico. Maybe someday.......
Asian Mix has some good seafood entrees as well as sushi/sashimi

LC can be a challenging place to find anything but basic NMex food, but it IS out there and worth the effort to find. A lot of interesting places have come and gone because of lack of support from local clientele. Maybe when the town grows a bit more we'll get a good Chinese, more and better Thai, and any Vietnamese (you have to go to El Paso now)

Here's a list of what I think is every restaurant in Las Cruces, with address and phone:

Las Cruces Clicks - Food & Drink

No one has mentioned Habeñero's, which opened last year sometime. On Solano near Idaho. Yes, it's another Mexican joint, but the owner is always smiling and always remembers me because I always order the same thing - and I only go there once every couple of months or so. Their burritos are huge and are two meals worth for me. For 3 bucks it's a deal.

I've only been to Lorenzo's in Mesilla (I think the other Lorenzo's have different owners?). This is a nice place with a lovely patio, and if you go for lunch you can get a delicious lunch for around $7. The breadsticks are killer. I went back for dinner once and found the prices a bit high for exactly the same things that are served at lunch.

International Delights has really good food, but I think I've finally had it with that place. They get my order wrong every time, they won't substitute hummus for the yogurt sauce in the falafel sandwich (they want to charge you an extra dollar for a smear of hummus), and the coffee is a robbery. I went again last week with my husband and he ordered a cup of coffee, got a mug filled 3/4 full with a bunch of coffee grounds floating in it. He asked for a splash of soy milk in it (can't drink dairy milk) and they said it's an extra dollar. For a teaspoon of soy milk. Their servers are not the brightest - I've heard the owner is a real dick and keeps hiring these brainless young girls because they look pretty behind the counter.

No one has mentioned High Desert Brewing. Not only do they have good beer, but a unique menu including sweet potatoe fries and veggie burgers (try finding that anywhere else in Cruces). That place is always busy.

Let me add Andele's...very tasty!! Located in Mesilla, right next door to El Comedor. We ate there Friday night.

There was a great place in Mesilla Park last time I was there that served great red enchiladas for breakfast. Is it still there?

I see that, sadly, my top choice for special occasion fine dining, Meson de Mesilla, has closed. Didn't make it a year. The menu was expensive but I always found the food, service and atmosphere to be worth the price...the essence of a good deal.
The restaurant business is very tough, even for seasoned pro's, and the owner probably got in too deep with a long delayed remodelling and couldn't hold on until the business built up to profitability. Lack of adequate cash is one of the main killers of new restaurants.
She was a great singer and I wish her the best. The Chef, as well. That guy knew quality.
LC is a tough town if you don't serve burritos and enchiladas.
