Default New Electronics Plant To Boost Southern NM

Had to report this as a Taiwanese firm Foxcom is building a HUGE Electronics plant in Mexico right next to the Port of Entry in Santa Teresa that will employ 20,000 workers and New Mexico Economic Developement officials are stoked as they said that will create thousands of spin off jobs for Santa Teresa and Southern Dona Ana county.

Electronics plant across border could boost Southern N.M. - SantaFeNewMexican.com

This is why I hate NAFTA. Those 20k jobs should be American jobs. It will do very little in my opinion for Santa Teresa, or New Mexico/Texas.

Its pretty far away really.. But there has been growth over there in that neck of the wood recently.. and lots of empty land, so that maybe why they are building over there.

Santa Teresa is a country club gated community, well thats what it started out as.. but the guard has not been in place at the gate for over 10 years.

The only thing it really has is big huge homes, a golf course and tennis club. I used to live out there for a while.. its a nice place.. secluded and all that.. but the people who live there or the upper valley area, are not going to care or want the jobs this may spring up... unless they own the companies and employee cheap labor as well. I would bet they will fight to keep that sorta thing out of the area. Like I said this will only Benefit the Company and Mexico.

Well i posted this story to be be positive for Las Cruces. Jerry Pacheco who is in charge of the Govenors ''Border Economic Developement'' which is a branch of the State of New Mexico Economic Developement has a good reputation of bringing in companies that pay well. He's brought in numerous metal stamping companies to Santa Teresa that pay around $60,000 to $70,000 a year. That's very good for that region. He's been running that show for over 8 years now so if he says he stoked about spinoffs then i believe hm in the article as he doesn't go for 6 dollar an hour jobs. He's a constant feature in the New Mexico Business Magazine and New Mexico Business Weekly.

Glad to be ridiculed about posting a positive the story.

Don't take it personally. Whenever something like this comes up around Las Cruces there's a ton of naysayers and complainers... and they wonder why the area is so poor. Luckily, this project looks to be on a large enough scale that it might be able to overcome the opposition to it from those who propose no viable alternative.

Thanks Funkymonkey....

Once again as some don't get it.......This is an Tiawanese company and NOT American so they can build wherever they want whether in back Taiwan or China or Mexico etc..as they didn't even have to select this area.

Secondly no one here said NM officials are stoked for Mexico but of the Suppliers who are interested in coming to Southern NM as several have already indicated and also the Santa Teresa area was reciently designated a ''Foreign Free Zone'' where as any American company that sets up in Santa Teresa gets added Tax benefits from New mexico and the United States IRS.The government has spent millions in the new Border Crossing there.

Thirdly ...New Mexico has a great Business and Tax incentive program for companies to relocate to the state as in Schott Solar, Fidelity Investments, Tempur Pedic, Marrillat Cabinet factory, all the new Hollywood Studios in Mesa Del Sol and Intel as some examples. Only ''High Wage'' jobs. So if Jerry Pacheco (Border Economic Director for NM ) is fired up then so am I.

Same old and tired Naysayers and Doomsdayers on here.

Santa Teresa is a master-planned community, on the drawing boards for over a decade, for as many as 90,000 people (the Rio Rancho of El Paso) that has not yet taken off. This may be the business catalyst needed to get things rolling.
