Lightbulb Desktop publishing/graphic design school

I am a senior citizen (for lack of a better term) relocating from WA State to LC in March of next year. I would like to know if anyone is aware of any reputable technical or business schools in LC that specifically teach desktop publishing/graphic design? (as opposed to a 2-year or 4-year college such as NMSU.) I have some pretty fair skills at this but want to hone them a bit. Apart from my full-time social services job, I have a small startup business on the side doing design and desktop publishing for friends, family and a few others as time allows.

I would like to get some kind of certification but don't want to devote more than two years max to school. I'll be working two jobs so won't have much time. Taking Internet courses is an option but not the ideal for me. I like hands on teaching. Any suggestions or ideas? Any information you can offer would be appreciated!

Well, if you want 2 years, then the only option I know of would be to take some classes at the community college.

Self-taught, dude - I did the same thing. I dropped OUT of college because it was hindering me. Lots of resources out there on the Internet and books. What they're teaching in Las Cruces as far as desktop publishing is probably 10 years out of date.

::butting in shamelessly::

Any favorite sites or books you'd recommend? I've been dabbling with amateurish desktop publishing for a while now and am thinking that if I tightened up my skills a bit I'd probably be able to make a little cash doing it.

If you will contact WESST Corp.'s Jo Ann Garay. Even though they are The Women's Economic Self-Sufficiency Team, they also train men as well.

She is an excellent trainer. I've taken a Word course with her, inexpensive as well.

They will even do customized training.

I highly recommend them! They are located off Telshor on Idaho, above the tall bank building to the east.

Thank you, I will try them. I'm a female executive (19 years) and entrepreneur so they actually sound like they'd be right up my alley!

Thanks for the input all!
