Default Small Towns South of Las Cruces

I visited Las Cruces last fall and I really liked the look and feel of the town, so much so that I thought it could be a nice place to retire a few years from now. Housing prices are getting up there however. I was wondering about some of the little towns between Las Cruces and El Paso lkie Anthony, La Mesa, Mesquite, Santa Teresa etc.. Housing costs are a little less there. What are those towns like? Are they just bedroom communities for El Paso? Are they safe?

Thanks for any input

Default South Of Las Cruces

I would try to stick around Las Cruces. The further you get to El Paso the worse it gets. You could look North and Northeast of Las Cruces too like in Hacienda Acres, Butterfield Park, Dona Ana, Radium Springs, etc. Look around Las Cruces first and if you can't find anything start going out a little further each time. I just don't think you would like living into El Paso. That is my opinion anyway.

Their a proposed site for a casino in Anthony Though it has been nearly two years since the Jemez Pueblo of northern New Mexico unveiled its proposal for an off-reservation casino, the tribe has yet to gain approval for the facility. Its application is under review by the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs in Albuquerque.
I Almost purchased a 2 story house on 2 acres. in a gated comm. the house is a 3bed 2bath 4car garage it was listed for 400,000. There a housing track 2 miles away the town is growing fast. The best bet is Las Cruces.

Thanks for the advice CJ and BQ. I get the picture I really don't want to live in a city/suburb area as big as El Paso. I'll probably be in New Mexico later this year, I think I will check out Silver City as it seems to be pretty well thought of in this forum.

P.S. Love those Jalapeno dusted pecans!
