New Mexico or Texas
Hi everyone
I am looking for someone who may have live in New Mexico (Las Cruces) and moved to Texas (Fort Worth area) or vise versa. My husband has an opportunity to transfer to either location for a management position. The pay will be the same in either city. We were thinking of las cruces because of the smaller city size, the cost of living, weather and recreation. But now after reading some of the posts regarding employment I am unsure the pay difference in the 2 cities is almost 50% lower in NM. I also have a 6th grader with special education needs and the school reports and programs do not seem so good for sp education. We are coming from a mid size No Cal city so either way its going to be an adjustment. Any feedback, comments or info would be appreciated.

As much as I love NM, the schools in TX are better, especially for students with special needs. Cost of living in both cities is fairly low by national standards and real low by California standards.

If it were me, I would choose Ft Worth area, but there are many things to consider: what are your outside interests? Are you politically active, liberal or conservative, would you like living in a college town? Have you even lived in a humid area with really hot summers? Do you like choices in dining, entertainment, etc? These are things to consider..
For your child Ft Worth would probably be a better choice. Again these are my views, others will differ. Las Cruses is a nice little town, I will add that.

If I had a special needs child I'd go to TX as well. NM is not conducive to good Special Ed. I've worked in it and, depending on the extent of the needs.....I'd say TX.

New Mexico Life
On the other hand New Mexico life and dry warm weather in the Las Cruces area is Great for your health and its a much slower life to where you might have a chance to be with your child more and learn about the Cultures. Alamogordo and Roswell come to mind also and Silver City. el pintada kid

It would be a long commute for her husband to Las Cruces from Alamogordo, Roswell, and Silver City.
