Wow. Is that getting common in Las Cruces? At least there you get to keep your vehicle, in El Paso, it's usually the whole car they take.

good idea - I'll gift wrap a bad of used cat litter and leave it in an unlocked car this summer.
I knew a guy who got hit with a thief taking his car radio once, when he replaced it, he glued box cutter razors from the back of it -- many -- figuring that if someone wanted to quick reach up to get the new radio, they would get what they deserved.

Sadly, they will turn around and sue the [razor-gluer] for
loss of income. After all, they have a family to support.

This actually happened recently in Albuquerque when a guy
got 'kilt' after breaking into a truck ( after breaking into the
garage where the truck was located ).

The judge awarded the family a monthly stipend from the truck
owner since the family no longer had the now dead ( thankfully )
father to "support" them.

Yep, probably got some stinking sleazebag liberal bleeding-heart judge to rule in their favor.

Yes, it's probably not legal depending on how bleeding heart the area you're in is, but it seems that if you want to put razor blades on your own property, you should be allowed to do so.

I also knew someone who had a vehicle stolen and was actually planning to keep a rattlesnake in the replacement. I don't think he went through with that plan because it makes it too inconvenient to use such a vehicle yourself, if you have to catch the snake anytime you want to use it.

What I think mike0421 should do is get an old broken radio and keep his car door unlocked to make it easy for the thief to get it since apparently they don't want the whole car. I think word gets out that you only have crappy things and then you aren't as likely to be hit again and again.

I do that when I go on vacation, anything I want to still have, I remove and store somewhere safe and I set out broken, non-functional televisions and pcs. Then if someone breaks in, they'll just be hauling off my junk and probably write me off as a good source of things.

I know someone whose house was burglarized of just about everything, every electronic item and jewelry. As soon as they got everything replaced, the thieves were back. The insurance agent told them that is common, the thieves know you'll be replacing the first stolen items, and know they know everything you have now is brand new, better than the first so they return.

Texas has a recent "Castle" law, where a homeowner is allowed to use deadly force to protect their property. This case would probably not even have gone to court there today, and it's too bad that all states do not have it.

Who cares if a thief gets killed in the process of robbing someone? Not I!!

I agree with most of these posts...esp. malamute's. I resisted the initial impulse I had to replace my stolen (smash and grab) kick-butt stereo system in my truck. I simply replaced the stock unit. Subsequently, my neighborhood got sacked one night soon after the original attack and eight cars in a two block radius were hit!!! My now OE sound system was left unmolested.
Only my semi-custom F-150 and my wife's Subey are exposed, my bike and my son's Mustang are under lock and key.

My house here in Denver is something of a fortress with motion detector dual floods at four locations and two reinforced entry ways. I have and can access lethal weaponry at more than one location on my property. Furthermore, there is nearly always someone present in the dwelling. I have security measures in place of more arcane design elsewhere which I won't divulge. Still, no structure is impregnable. Fort Knox can be breached by a determined, well equipped and well-schooled team. Vigilance and preparedness are required for life in the city folks!
