....and about that home in Maine. While you're in New Mexico, get yourself one of these and take it back to Maine. Bury him and see if it works!

Hi everyone

Just checking in to see how you all are. I also would be interested in a quiet neighborhood, maybe an older one in Mesilla would be the one for me just as it was for tecpatl and tigerlily. Are there any places where older people tend to live?

You have to be so careful when choosing a home & some people spend less time doing this than they do buying a new car.

I received in the mail an advertisement for Trails West. It seems to be a planned over 55 community, but there are no photos of any of the houses which is a red flag for me. Also, on their map which is drawn not a photo, the houses seem squished together sort of. It's on Avenida de Mesilla. Have you ever gone by this place?
One of their streets is called "Happy Trails" which seems kind of creepy because it reminds me of the end of the old Roy Rogers show and I also am pretty sure that it is another term for that great place in the beyond.

I have only been in Trails West once, for an estate sale, and the part I was in was very neat and clean and well maintained single and, I think, doublewide manufactured housing, sometimes known as house trailers. I hesitate to say that because some folks hate em, some love em. I was struck by how spiffed up it all was. There was a rummage sale going on the same day at a their community center. Everyone was very nice, retired, and having fun. The impression I got was that it's a close knit community but that's only a first impression. I'd imagine it's pretty affordable but don't know that either.
I'll see if I can poke my nose in there again in the next couple days and take a better look (and a photo) around. They're security minded and I think entry is restricted so I'm not sure I can get in. Good for safety, certainly.

YouTube - Dale Evans & Roy Rogers

YouTube - Happy Trails
As a 6 year old cowpoke I loved Roy Rogers. The fact that he greatly resembled a good friend of my dad's who played country & western and cowboy music probably helped. Hoppy and Gene were cool, too...but Roy was the best.

This might turn into it's own thread....lol

Thanks , tecpatl. I had not thought of that show for years. Certainly not of Hoppy. It used to come on in the late afternoon after school was over. I don't think I've ever seen the shows offered as DVDs or anything. I wonder if they all were lost like the Johnny Carson shows from New York (they were erased , can you imagine?).

Thanks for asking.
Yes. 6'3" (almost fourteen inches taller than I) .
I do think that I would love living in Las Cruces and right now I am looking at lots of brochures for houses. Some , it seems , have not been built yet. I really have sort of become entranced with the beauty of the desert landscape and the clear skies.
It'll be a total change for me , coming from the humid and somewhat suffocating northeast. It is, though, what I want to do.
