Well, I frequently get red bell peppers for $0.50 at Toucan. They are usually $1 or more at Alberton's or Wal-Mart and I don't go around telling my friends how expensive wal-mart is, nor to I get a negative attitude toward the whole store because of it.
But, I guess if you want to do that, then you're clearly within your rights to do so.

Incidentally, how much are those corn cups with chile that they sell in the stands outside wal-mart?

Somewhat off topic, but we fianlly arrived yesterday, and are a little disappointed with Albertson's (on E. Lohman.) It just seems older and not as nice as many stores, and the prices aren't very good, either. Now, we will give it more of a shot of course, but are there other options besides co-ops and Walmart? The co-ops are good for some things, but not everything for us at this point.

I wasn't impressed with that Albertson's when I first got here either, but, it is a lot better than Lowes which is pretty much the only other alternative. Walmart or Sam's Club, which is up on Telshor going towards Del Rey, are probably the best for basic stuff, but, Albertson's does have some good sales, and I only buy meat and produce there or at Toucan. I've had some very bad experiences with meat in particular from Walmart.

Thanks, Tigerlily. Everything is relative!
I would not buy produce or meat from Walmart.

I was at Toucan today and Coca-Cola 2 liters were $1.88
So perhaps they lowered their prices.

Here is another grocery-related question:
Corn on the cob? Is this not a good time to get it? In New England, August is peak season. I looked for some at Albertson's yesterday, and finally found a tiny section and the ears themselves were very small. Did I miss the season?

Good sweet corn at city market
On both Saturday and Wednesday, there is a family at the downtown market that sells pretty good sweet corn. We buy it every week in season. They have a fair size trailer full of corn and other items. On Saturday they are set up close to the museums. On Wed, they are one section closer to the middle of the mall, but easy to spot with the trailer full of corn and melons etc. We have been eating corn from them for some weeks now.
