Default Las Cruces Property Taxes

Is this correct? I just used the property tax calculator on the Dona Ana County Assessor website and came up with $7196 for a $800k house.

It would depend on how much land the house is sitting on. The assessor's website sets a mil rate for property, and then land is considered.

The Assessor's Office set's value, for the land and buildings whatever they may be, you then divide by three and mulitply by the mil rate, which is set in Santa Fe to get the amount of taxes. Usually it's about 1% of full value per year.
