alamogordo nm/or las cruces/el paso tx (Carlsbad, Ruidoso: relocating, travel)

the weather in all 3 cities I would say is about the same, but las cruces and el paso have the palm trees added to their desert .My opion I would say Las Cruces is the better choice.Choose El Paso if you like the traffic.

well, i was born and raised in alamogordo. both las cruces and alamogordo are about the same. Alamgordo is more for the people that are interested in the small town, no crime, everybody knows everybody feel. And Cruces is only 60 miles away. In El Paso you have to deal with the horrible smell, and seeing dirty Juarez 50 feet away from you. El Paso is a really big city, so if you don't mind dealing with the traffic, the smell, and all the illegal aliens then it is for you. I was glad to have feedback for el paso/las cruces. These are important facts you won't here from the chamber of commerce. This site gets alot of people reviews of posts, but seldom feedback?

another thing on El Paso is it looks like a dirty city,sorta like albuquerque but a lil more dirty,picture mexico but in texas,plus El Paso has a view of the slums in Juarez just off the interstate.

I love El Paso and i was born and raised here.
I also LOVE Las Cruces. People are genuinely nice there..heck they pass mints around ARBY'S?
I hated EL Paso because of the same reasons that are previously stated.
BUT I have found a beauty here that really surpasses any town I have spent time in. In a word: the people. If you wanna see the worst in everythin, you will..perhaps it is just your personal perception..you may find coffee strong and offensive..others relish in it.

There are so many races here and everyone pretty much accepts that.

I am 36 and have tried a few places in Arizona and central Texas. When I got home I noticed such an acceptance of race that I never realized til I left here and heard of "other" attittudes concerning race. I heard references to "Yankees" while in central Texas...they were serious...and it was because I had used the word "beverage" and I was told I was a Yankee? LOL uh I "think" the civil war is over. Well in El Paso it is.

You have American Indian culture as well as Spanish and Mexican and caucasian (which we know consists of MANY different heritages.) I myself have Swedish/Norweigian/Scottish.

My Great-Grands came here and settled in MN. My grandfather contracted TB and as I have heard 100's of times..they relocated to "dry weather" and the huge TB hospital was here that is now the Spanish Bible Society on ALabama St. high up on the mountain over looking a GORGEOUS view of the North East part of El Paso and Ft BLiss which is any Patriot's sense of pride here. Home of the "Patriot Missle" which if you followed the Gulf War (would couldn't back then) you would have heard of.

El Paso is RICH in history and i think it is quite small and large at the same time. There are things abdout El Paso I don't even know yet, but i am constantly surprised and have exclaimed "REALLY?" too many times to count.
As far as polution...ack! Indeed pollution exists here but we have come so far in making things better on "our side" of the border.

As far as "slums" well, you won't ever find a town ANYWHERE unless you are loaded and if you we're you'd prolly be seeking out a resortish type of place...but Grand Cayman even has slums tho..lol.

My husband just said, "Monaco doesn't have any slums." Everyone is a comedian.

I think home is wherer your heart is.

I love Las Cruces because of family ties...but i think living in EL Paso is great.
You are right in the middle between Alamagordo (space museum..ohhhh) and from there are ski resorts and golfing(El Paso has great golfing too) in Ruidoso (where I spent my honeymoon) and Cloudcroft which is quaint and gorgeous with pines pines pines. It has a strong spiritual meaning in my life.
Go a different direction and you'll see Sierra Madre Mountains which I liken to autumn in Vermont during the fall. Continue on and you'll find Carlsbad Caverns which is phenominal.

All these are DAY trips!!! If you want to get into the crooks and crannies with me...I'd be happy to talk to you, just reply!

Well, I think I am finished. Again I feel home is loved ones, church family, friends. And I just wanted to stand up for my home, EL Paso. As well as say that Las Cruces and Alamagordo has such wonderful aspects as well as dust storms and people who will know what type of detergent you bought the week before.

Home is where the heart is.

I agree with you Charmplace about El Paso as its my Alma Mater in High School (Andress High) as i don't think you'll get many negative posts on here about El Paso. Where you'll get Hammered is on the El Paso threads although the Moderator over there is fantastic (Austin Traveler) as she is very good at deletung or permantly banning the ''El Crapo'' or ''Hellpaso'' types that show up now and then. But there are some characters and good one's also over there.

Where ever you move I hope you will enjoy it. I live in Alamogordo and what I like is the mountains are at your back door. If you want to visit snow you can in the winter, visit the cool in the summer. There is a lot to do here and we are 80 miles from El Paso and 70 from Las Cruces.
Please read some of the other threads about each city that you are thinking about.
