Default Visiting Las Cruces, Suggestions on Where to Live Near NMSU

My wife and I will be visiting Las Cruces soon because she is looking to get her masters at New Mexico State.

Obviously, we would like to live near campus to avoid her having a long commute, but are unfamiliar with the area. We don't have kids, so schools are not important but we are not kids ourselves so we don't want to live too close to any wild party student areas. We'd like to rent a 3 brdm house that is close to some shopping and restaurants.

Any suggestions on neighborhoods to look at when we visit?

There is Married student housing on campus but the homes are older (Cinder Block) and there could be a waiting list. They are very cheap to live in. You do not have to worry about parking because you can bike/walk to class. We lived in one while I was getting my masters (My wife, my daughter, and I). If you don't mind living on campus then I would highly recommend it. There is plenty of shopping and restaurants near campus.

The only real commute in Las Cruces is if you work in El Paso, NASA, or White Sands. The commute is not 2 hours of backed up traffic though.

There are really no long commutes in Las Cruces. There are many nice residential neighborhoods really close to NMSU. Check out Mesilla Park, Crescent Park, Las Alturas, Ridgecrest, and University Hills to name a few. These are older established neighborhoods that are affordable and have some rental houses. They are also fairly quiet.
