Depends on what is "worst" to you. If you don't like heat -- and I mean HEAT -- then June through August is pretty bad.

Spring is the worst with the winds. WIth the low humidity, the heat in the summer is very bearable if you have some shade. But out on a blacktop parking lot at Walmart at midday in July can be brutal.

Winters are fair, but colder than AZ, CA or the Gulf Coast. Fall is glorious, but fall is glorious everywhere. The bottom line is, Las Cruces has nothing to offer, and retirees need to quit moving here asap.

I agree with Domino about fall....usually very good (late Sept to late Oct being best) ....not sure about LC having nothing to offer ....also right about CA, AZ, etc being milder...however LC ain't bad either ...and not as hot as parts of CA, AZ, TX, NV ....here's some averages..though can be warmer and colder (as last winter was) ....

JAN 61 30
FEB 65 32
MAR 72 37
APR 81 46
MAY 89 53
JUN 98 63
JUL 97 67
AUG 95 66
SEP 92 58
OCT 83 48
NOV 69 35
DEC 61 30

PRECIP is 7 to 8" range ....snowfall 3 to 4" range (some years none)
Windiest in early spring ....rainiest in summer (thunderstorms)
....300+ sunny days a year

LRUA,

I have two concerns about Las Cruces, one is protracted temps in the 100s in summer and also how the winds would affect my allergies.

At the moment LC is one of the 4 cities on our list of possible retirement places and before I spend the time and money to go there I want to learn as much as I can about it. Thanks for your reply.

Norm

The LC I know has many days of 100+ degree weather. June-August are the worst. The fall is a really nice time to vist that place if you have to.

Respiratory allergies are caused by inhaling particles containing the allergen suspended in the air, places that have little rain contain more particles floating in the air, because the rain won't bring them down. Wind and high temperatures won't be an important factor. Again, my suggestion is to give it a try, that's the only sure way to find out; perhaps you're only allergic to the air where you live and not to the air in Las Cruces.
