I think the players' skill depend on the night of the week and where you're playing.

We were at the Excalibur poker room on a Friday night. Got into a 1/2 NL game with a table full of bachelor party guys that were stumbling drunk. They couldn't give their money away fast enough....that may have been an anomaly but it sure was fun and was DANG lucrative!! :-)

No kidding!! But now that we live here I haven't spent a dime on any of the games...just don't want to get into the habit

We spend a ton on shows and dinner though and we're having a blast!!

thats why the card counting books are around and PERSONALLY I think theyre subsidised by the Casinos lol........for every 1000 people that buy the book and come to Vegas to 'count cards' 999 of them couldnt count their toes and THAT's FREE MONEY.

Drunks are really the only way to make money at poker in LV. They can be profitable but everyone can spot them. Even the 1/2 NL games often have a couple of solid players who are always trying to isolate the drunk or weak players. Once in awhile you get lucky and get the money they are giving away, but it doesn't last for very long and of course even the idiot gets lucky quite a bit in poker.

Vegas used to be ok for poker even with the tighter games than elsewhere because the rake was reasonable and cost of living was so much lower than other competing games. Now the rake is $4 or more in almost all games and the ridiculous scourge of jackpot drops exists in most rooms. California charges the same or a little more, but the games are miles ahead in terms of fish and ease to beat. Used to be living in So Cal was two to three times the cost of LV, but for renters in certain areas its nowhere near as much a difference anymore. You owe it to yourself to try California games first before committing to Vegas, just my honest advice.
