The last bill we had the electric usage alone was $122. The rest was fee's and taxes. $36 worth.

Ok, I have to pipe in here.

Am I the only person who can't stand being inside of an apartment unless it's set at 75 or lower? I have tried many times to set my thermostat at 80 something and it is still too damn hot in the summer! I guess I like my place to feel like a morgue. Okay, seriously, not that extreme, but setting it at 80 and above just seems futile. I live in Arizona, btw.

Gee I'll turn my thermostat to 75 to save a couple of dollars, 70 degrees is too cold!

Default Well Insulated Modern House

We moved in last summer and added insulation to the attic and solar screens to the West facing windows. Our worst bill was August at $225 and we kept thermostat at 74. Since then we have put up insulated drapes, gotten new weather stripping around the front door and gotten rid of the refrigerator in the garage. My goal is to keep the bill below $200 without being uncomfortable.
May I ask what year your house was built? I understand all the newer houses are very well insulated compared to the old ones. We are looking at a house with the same square footage as yours and so this is valuable info for us. Thanks

Not true. There are 4 speed settings. Take a look at the youtube video and it will explain it to you in more detail. Even at the lowest speed, you can run it 24 hours and still save money.

I think you may find this article interesting on airconditioning in Nevada and how it helped shape Nevada.

Nevada shaped by fans of air conditioning

By Abigail Goldman
They blasted dynamite holes in the ground to plant trees. The desert was too hard for shovels, but they needed the shade. This was Las Vegas before air conditioning. The trees were an early thermal coercion now quaint and crazy as the rest.

I ate my previous words today when I opened my bill for $235. My last bill included part of May when I wasn't using the AC and had fooled me into thinking I could set it at 78-80 and keep my bill down. I guess I'll have to acclimate to 90 degrees...

Built in 2005. Attic has the cocoon insulation of loose cellulose installed on the roof of the attic rated at R-22. We had more insulation added to the attic floor. [SIZE=2][SIZE=2]
