I have allot of questions about living in Las Vegas. I've lived here for allot of months now and I've read allot of threads during that time. I've seen reviews about allot of restaurants and allot of casinos and allot of hotels. I've also seen questions about allot of apartment complexes and allot of housing developments. Not to mention allot of questions about electricity usage and allot of questions about swimming pools. But there is one question that I've not seen answered:

Why do so many people write "allot" when there is no such word in the English language?

Actually, allot is a valid English word, but not when it is used in the context you've presented. For instance, I can allot you $10 to spend in every casino on The Strip. It's not a lot of money, but when you add up the allotments, it's a substantial amount.

Well, we could also ask how much people loose in casinos?

I'll ask my pet, Peeve. He's an information retriever.

Thank you William Safire.

When you find the answer you can move on to why people use the word "conversate."

Why does Vegas have to be in the middle of the dessert?
