So Im seriously considering (something I thought I'd NEVER do) apply ing for food stamps here in Nevada. Does anybody know what the exact eligibility is to receive them in Nevada?

I don't remember the exact qualifications but their site will tell you. You have to make under like 17k a year or in that ballpark and have less than 2k to your name, Also your car can't be worth too much. If you live with someone their income counts too to my knowledge. I have a feeling that there are a lot of people cheating the system though. I've seen people use food stamps at the store and drive away in new cars.

I've seen that too, at Vons I remember there were some customers who paid with WIC AND food stamps. Drove off in a brand new Mercedes

i would imagine that you have to be a resident of nevada, and i believe it is a certain time period before you are considered one... you can't move to a state and two weeks later collect...

I think as long as you have proof of residency(gas, cable bill) you can be eligible. My ex roommate got aproved for Food Stamps only after about a month of living in Vegas. He said it was a relatively easy process.

Don't do it. Man up and find a way to make some money. You don't want to go through life being a leech.

If he's genuinely putting his best foot forward and finding it difficult to find enough food to eat I have no problem with helping someone get the assistance they need. I would hope someone would do the same for me. It's what the program is there for. The people leeching and/or cheating the system are a complete disgrace and ought to be deported in my book. Having to choose between eating food or paying utilities isn't any way to live.

If you do get turned down. A lot of churches give out food for people experiencing hardship on the honor system.
