Hello all!!

Family of 3 from Los Angeles.....I am a call center/Telemarketing Manager here in LA. We love Las Vegas soo much and California is becoming harder and harder to love as the days go by.....No, I don't have a job waiting for me in Vegas although I am searching! is it true that employers are wary of hiring out of towners? If so, uh oh....

We spend about $1700 a month for a tiny 2bdrm apt in West Hollywood, i'm talking about 700 square ft on a good day. It's time for a change and maybe a decent sized house to rent. I drove around town a few times and saw some nice houses all over Vegas for $1200 a month....

I know the economy in Vegas isn't great, but Cali's economy sucks too. Should we just do it and move to Vegas? it seems that so many people on these forums recommend staying away from Vegas....oh, what to do.....thanks!

You're jumping out of the frying pan into the fire if you dont have some living expenses or a solid job lined up when you get here.

Nevada/Vegas is far better than LA/California, with respect to taxes, living costs, etc.

For now, it's hard to justify recommending the move as you'd be moving without a job to the state with the nation's higher UE rate. I'd say stay in LA for now, keep looking for work in Vegas and then consider the move at a later time. By then, you'll have a better sense of what your chances of finding work in LV are. I'm not 100% opposed to you moving to Vegas without employment lined up, but it might be better to just look a little bit more before taking the plunge. If you have enough savings, can return to work in LA (and other factors), it could be worth trying. However, I'm not sure I'd recommend it right now.

Your job doesn't seem to depend on location so the move might be viable. However, my hatred of telemarketers is strong enough to persuade you not to come.

What HE said above there...and then some...we have the WORST unemployment in the nation!!!

Unless you got a good nest egg to pay rent, gas and buy food for a few months so you can look for work, don't move here, unless you can secure employment first.

It doesn't matter what you're paying in Cali...you won't be getting that same paycheck once you get here and you probably won't make the same the pay either for similiar work.

And yes, EVERYONE loves Las Vegas and our homes ARE beautiful and now especially, reasonably priced for sale and/or rent. However...

If you had all your ducks in a row, then yes, I'd get the heck out of California ASAP, but definately not under your circumstances....kid, spouse and no job and yes, sometimes employers here in town are "wary" of people who apply for jobs from out of state. Most of the time, but not always.

All the best luck to you in whatever you decide to do!

Nope.
I just got back from a month long visit in Vegas and I wouldn't recommend it.
The economy is so poor that people are trying to get jobs to get enough money to LEAVE Las Vegas.

There are no jobs, unless you are a professional, and then, not many of them.

I would suggest waiting until next spring ...after the herd has thinned and then look at moving over there.
There will be PLENTY of empty apartments, condos and houses and you will be welcomed w/ open arms.

Thats strange seeing that this section(Las Vegas) still gets 2-3 "moving to Vegas" threads every couple of days. But your statement about jobs is dead on, there are jobs for professionals and those that dont mind to compromise.(min wage)

Only move if you have a job!!!!!!!!!! unless you want to stand outside of star nursery and get a suntan looking for a few hours of work. The job market is BAD and you don't want to work for min wage and try to support a family it sucks.
