If I or my animals were doing something that bothered the neighbors, I would go out of my way to correct it. I would look at the problem from their point of view and see how I would feel. Why would someone have to live with a neighbors dog that barks its head off every time you go into your own back yard. That is destroying your quality of life. I talked to noise control specialist with Clark County. They told me to record the barking dog with video and sound and make a noise complaint. After 3 successive complaints , they will issue a ticket with a fine. The fines will get higher till the issue is solved. I'm happy now, I have a mission.
Sounds polite and neighborly...

I am home most of the time and the dogs go in and out as they please. If I am not at home, the dogs are in their kennels in the house. I also believe it is way too hot here to ever leave a dog outside. Plus my dogs want to be with their humans, they want to do what we do! If someone comes into my street/cul de sac, they bark like crazy. They are telling me someone is out there. They are smart. They don't react to the neighbors or their cars. They pretty much know who belongs here. They do let us know when the mailperson or delivery people are here.

There have been break ins/burglaries in my area but none on my street. I have big dogs and so does my across the street neighbor. I think the dogs are one of the reasons we have not been victimized. One of the neighbors told me he listens to my dogs. If he hears them bark like crazy, especially if it's after dark, he goes out to see what's going on. He knows they don't just bark for the entertainment or boredom.

Several weeks ago they went nuts. I went out to find they had a young man cornered where he had climbed over a locked gate. They would not let him move and they were fierce! I called them off and told him to leave immediately. He climbed that gate and ran off like the hounds from hell were on his tail. And that's just fine!

I take good care of my dogs and I listen to them. There's a huge difference between a stray bark and their intruder alert! Now if only Owens Corning would stop that commercial with a doorbell in it!

While I agree with you, the first thing you need is an Animal Control Dept. and Code Enforcers who give a [excrement]. They just don't care about dogs howling all day and all night because they're in agony. Not in this town. No way. No how.

I have called them to report blatant and appalling animal abuse and they told me that "I have to understand their culture." They didn't mention who "they" are. But they were very clear that they aren't going to do a damned thing -- unless there is gambling on dog fights. It's the unlicensed gambling they object to. Not the animal abuse.
