I haven't been rejected for a position at the Cosmo, so my comments aren't based on any bitterness. They are simple facts. Most of the people that I know who were hired are friends with the hiring manager. Like I said before, hiring your friends doesn't make your casino any more or less special than another one. I certainly would hope that this place doesn't close in a year, because our economy couldn't handle anymore bad news. While I am still waiting for a response and understand the reason behind them waiting this long to give one, I probably wouldn't even take the job if they did offer it to me. I already work at one of the best casinos on the strip as it is.

I knew nobody and was able to get hired. Management will always hire people they know or people they shouldn't but that's a fact of life in any casino or any industry. I have got rejected by a ton of places in town but always keep trying. I try to look at it from their perspective and see how I can do better next time etc.. Iv'e definately been on the losing end (not get hired) plenty of times but I never take it too personal. Bottom line the place will do really well, I love how people who didn't get the job now claim or think the place will close after a year. Like that person getting hired would make or break the property.

I don't understand why people get so upset that a hiring manager would go with someone they worked with before. That person has already proved to the manager that they know how to do a great job in a real work setting. That's much better information to go on than a sharp resume and positive interview. If I were them I'd try to take every great employee from my old property with me.

Last interview - October 9. Told I would hear something in two weeks.

October 25 - Email from the hiring manager, saying he would be in touch by "week's end."

Today - I was just told I wouldn't hear anything until Monday, and to enjoy the rest of my weekend. Easy for the receptionist to say, she's been working for a couple of months already!

I wanted to give proper notice to my current employer, but I don't see how that is going to happen now...if my "journey" hasn't come to an end, that is.

I have to say that dragging people when they've already decided is a dick move. If you want to keep someone on file for future consideration, you should...tell them they didn't get the job and ask them if you can keep them on file for future consideration.

Stringing along candidates who may be hedging their entire future on this job is just plain shady.

Thank you, MizzouGypsy, you took the words...right off of my keyboard.

I'm still waiting as well. The methods of the Cosmopolitan Human Resources department are presently not inspiring my confidence. They seem to be neglecting that priceless virtue known as "common courtesy."

Oh well...que sera, sera...

Best example I can give to anybody still waiting, I remember when Wynn opened I never even got a rejection until after the place was running a month. Almost every casino in town will keep people in the dark especially anyplace that is first opening. To be honest if you haven't heard anything yet chances are slim to none. The whole "keep your file for future consideration" is the kiss of death.

Here's how I believe the hiring process works. Aside from being friends with the hiring manager, if you were outgoing, had lots of energy and showed them you were a "rockstar" during the interview you were put on their "A" list and probably received an offer by now. On the other hand if you showed that you were more interested in what the job can offer you instead of the other way around, you raised red flags. For example, asking about seniority, how many people in your shifts, union questions, and more things along those lines. If you had potential and you lowered your score because of this then you are put on the "B" list and now you just have to wait until they are done with interviews and hope they don't find more "A" candidates before training begins in a couple weeks. It's common sense, they want to make sure they hire people who are going to be a perfect fit and not just hire the first person they interview. Unfortunately they have the advantage of having way too many candidates for each position. Believe me if you are waiting to hear from them there is still hope, as people who scored lower than "b" have already received their end-of-the-journey e-mails. Good luck to everyone, the waiting game is cruel but who knows you may get that Job offer call soon.
