I currently live in Big Sky MT and am ready for a change. I have been looking all over the place and recently saw online that a few of the casinos offer employee housing for much less than normal apartment prices. When I called one of them they said that it wasnt true. So are there any casinos or resorts that offer employee housing for their employees and if so which ones? Thanks, I have jumped from ski resort to ski resort for the past few years and started out in employee housing and I feel it is the easiest way to get on your feet in a new city.

I only know of one area in Primm that has an apartment complex exclusively for employee's of one or two of the casino's. I guess they get a discount for living there and they can just walk to work basically. Or take the free shuttle bus. So my guess you would call one of the casino's in Primm and ask. Buffalo Bills or Terribles.

Casinos nationwide are laying people off in droves. They aren't increasing their employee benefits. There may be some resorts or hotels in remote locations (national parks) or in places where local housing is beyond expensive (like Vail, for example) where employers make arrangements for housing subsidies, but this wouldn't occur any more than the market could bear. And the market ain't bearin' much these days any place, let alone Las Vegas. If you have a job already in the service industry, you might seriously want to consider hanging on to it.

If you're intent on a warmer climate, I've heard that the Marriott Starr Pass Resort in Tucson and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Dove Mountain in Marana, AZ, have openings for jobs in food and beverage, housekeeping, recreation, maintenance, typical spa resort stuff. Canyon Ranch Tucson might have a few, too, but they have some pretty specialized jobs and it helps if you look like a model. They all say they want previous experience. Most of the other Southern Arizona resorts do not appear to be hiring at all. Please keep in mind that pay rates in this region are lower than the nationwide average. And I have never heard of any here where housing is part of the compensation.

This is the only group that I'm aware of also. These are owned by Herbst Gaming and there are three casinos clustered close by. They are Whiskey Pete's, Buffalo Bills and Primmadonna. They are located at Stateline, which is about 35-40 miles from Las Vegas.

I work at Primm and let me tell you, it is it's own isolated little world. I've never been in the apts but they look pretty nice from the outside and I know they have a pool and a gym. The pool is heated year round. Regular transportation to Vegas is available by bus and it costs about $8 rt for people who work out there. Some employers like Nieman-Marcus give employees a gas allowance.

There is a good side to it, cheap rent and no commuting costs would make this an easy way to get set up and save some money. Basically there are 3 casinos, some fast food, a lotto store, and an outlet mall. There is a small grocery store that isn't advertised but it is located at the apt complex(no sign). I know of several places trying to hire people but you can only live in the apts if you work at the casinos. There are agencies hiring people that are subcontracting to the casinos. It's not clear to me if those people are allowed to live at the apts. I think there is some strange numbers games going on. The casinos seem to be laying people off but then those same people are hired by contractors to do the same jobs they did before. If you can get on with the casinos, it would be easy to get a second job somewhere else at the mall. I know a BJ dealer out there and she says her hours have been going up. It's a small labor pool because there aren't many people willing to make the commute from Vegas. It's expensive and takes about an hour one way unless you live quite far south of town. If you do the commute, join AAA or something like it. If you ever break down, you will need help!

If you like outdoors and the desert, you can have fun there. Unlimited space for hiking/exploring. Lots of windsurfers on the Ivanpah Dry Lake bed too. That looks like fun. The tiny town next door has a basic airstrip and there is skydiving and gliders. You see hot air balloons every now and then too. I've heard of a couple local swimming lakes up in the mountains but I haven't seen them yet. But beware, it is quite remote and there are no services for the most part.

Rumor has it there will eventually be a major airport out there that will replace McCarran. Will it? Who knows but a lot of people talk about it. If that happens the area will change a lot and Primm will be a gold mine!

Did not one of the two casinos in Jean close to make way for this airport?
